The 2019 Louisiana high school season is in full swing now, as teams begin their third week of play. Although the season is still young, some teams have already begun to make moves, causing plenty of shakeup in the updated Power 25 team rankings.

Ouachita Christian HS was one of the biggest risers this week, as the perennial Class 1A powerhouse has jumped out to an impressive 8-1 start, and check in at No. 5 this week. The Eagles are one of the most talented clubs in the state, regardless of class, and have already taken down several Class 5A clubs in a tough early season schedule. Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2019 C Clint Hargrave was named the Player of the Week earlier today, as the senior went 11-for-20 with five doubles and 11 RBI this past week. The Eagles had several standouts this past week though, including 2020 RHP Kade Trichel who picked up three wins, allowing zero runs in nine and one-thirds innings. While 2021 RHP Jon Michael Cader picked up two wins, allowing only one earned run in ten innings of work, while striking out 11.

Two Catholic League powers also make big jumps in the updated rankings, as Brother Martin HS (7-1) and Jesuit HS (7-2) have both gotten out to fast starts, and check-in at Nos. 7 and 12 respectively. Louisiana State recruit, 2020 OF/1B Tre’ Mogan (Brother Martin HS, LA) is a force in the middle of the Crusader lineup, as the left-handed hitter is one of the more advanced bats in the 2020 class. The Blue Jays are a quality club with talent all over the field, and 2020 RHP Will Hellmers has shown flashes of dominance on the bump, as he shut out a talented St. Paul’s HS club, running his fastball up to 86 mph.

The very top of the list remains largely in the hands of district 3-5A, as perennial powers Barbe HS (8-1) and Sam Houston HS (10-0) have given every indication that they are the teams to beat in class 5A. The top five is rounded out with Zachary HS (7-2) and University Lab HS (6-2), coming in at Nos. 3 and 4 respectively.
