With yesterday’s release of the Pre-Season Power 25, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana continues its look ahead to the 2016 prep season today with its release of the Pre-Season Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and 1st team All-State selections.

Player of the Year{Daniel Cabrera, OF/LHP, John Curtis HS(2017)}

Pitcher of the Year{Blayne Enlow, RHP, St. Amant HS(2017)}

Catcher

+ Keelyn Johnson, Pineville HS(2016)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound catcher with a strong, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, quick footwork, quick transfer, and stays athletic. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and plus life on throws that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph and a pop time of 1.8 seconds. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and excellent balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and explosive bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 92 mph. Also posted a 7.12 60 yard dash.

Infield

+ Jake Slaughter, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
A 6-foot-2, 198-pound infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through balls athletically. Loose arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and explosive bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 97 mph. Quality athlete that also posted a 6.66 60 yard dash.

+ Josh Smith, Catholic(BR) HS(2016)
A 5-foot-9, 170-pound infielder with an average, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, quick and clean exchange, and plays through balls well. Loose arm action into ¾ release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 84 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from a tall setup, smooth load, leg kick, and solid lower half. Line-drive type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 87 mph. Also posted a 6.79 60 yard dash.

+ Michael Kirsch, Brother Martin HS(2016)
A 6-foot-1, 200-pound infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Outstanding athlete that posted 6.51 60 yard dash. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through balls athletically. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path, and explosive bat speed that produced an exit velocity 96 mph.

+ Ryan Reynolds, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound infielder with a large, physical, strong frame. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, quick and clean exchange, playing through balls well. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 84 mph. Switch hitter that hits from a balanced setup, smooth load, leg kick, explosive lower half and solid balance. Gap to gap, power hitter with fluid rhythm, level path and strength at contact that produced an exit velocity of 95 mph. Also posted a 7.26 60 yard dash.

Outfield

+ Jacob Pearson, West Monroe HS(2017)
A 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder with an athletic, strong build with present fast twitch actions. Outstanding overall athlete that ran an impressive 6.5 60 yard dash. Left-handed hitter that hits from a balanced, athletic setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and excellent balance. Displays lightning quick bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 100 mph. Line-drive type hitter that showed advanced pull power potential hitting numerous home runs during live batting practice. Solid defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through balls well, but lacks in arm strength.

+ Stephen Sepcich, Jesuit HS(2017)
A 6-foot-2, 185-pound outfielder with a strong, physical, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with fluid footwork, athleticism, clean exchange, and plays through balls well. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 89 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup, no load, leg kick, explosive lower half and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, creates solid extension, and explosive bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 90 mph. Also posted a 7.12 60 yard dash.

+ Nick Webre, Teurlings Catholic HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10, 185-pound outfielder with a strong, physical frame. Solid defender with average hands, clean exchange and plays through balls well. Long arm action into ¾ release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 80 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from a crouch, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter, fluid rhythm, slightly uphill path that creates quality extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 92 mph. Also posted 7.00 60 yard dash.

Pitchers

+ Blayne Enlow, St. Amant HS(2017)
A 6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with a long, lean, athletic frame. Clean, easy arm action into a high-3/4 release with little effort. Smooth rhythm with level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and athletic. Fastball sat 89-91 with heavy sink and command. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with sharp, late break, tight spin and deception at 77-78 mph. Flashed changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 83 mph.

+ Haden Erbe, Crowley HS(2016)
A 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher with a strong, athletic frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with lightning quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 89-92 mph with heavy sink. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with near fastball arm speed, early break and occasional tight spin at 75-77 mpj. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and fade action at 76-78 mph.

+ Landon Marceaux, Destrehan HS(2018)
A 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 87-89 mph with late sink and advanced command. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, tight spin, fastball arm speed and sharp break at 78-80 mph. Also showed advanced feel for changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 79-81 mph.

Utility

+ Daniel Cabrera, John Curtis HS(2017)
A 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder and left-handed pitcher with an athletic, strong frame. Left-handed hitter with advanced hit tool, bat speed, quality leverage in swing, and advanced hand-eye coordination. Hits to all fields with backspin, smooth runner with tracking instincts in the outfield. Left-handed pitcher with clean, smooth delivery, strong front-side and repeats extremely well. Fastball sits 86-88 mph with life and command. Shows a tight spinning breaking ball with 2/8 shape, depth, deception and late, hard break at 74-76 mph. Shows an above average changeup with fastball arm speed, deception, and plus late, hard fade action with depth. During his sophomore spring Cabrera hit .566 with 6 home runs, 31 RBI, 10 doubles, 40 runs scored, and slugged 1.013. On the mound he posted a 1. 43 ERA in 39 INN with 60 strikeouts to 12 walks on the way to winning a state championship.
