Prospect ID Showcase: Underclass Standouts

On Monday, Sept. 7, more than 80 players from across the state of Louisiana in the 2016-2019 classes participated in the Prep Baseball Report Prospect ID Showcase at St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Hammond, LA.

As well, we took a look at a few other unsigned seniors that made some noise at the Prospect ID Showcase.

Today, we look at five Underclassmen that stood out at the Prospect ID Showcase.

Underclass Standouts

+ Alex Egan, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas HS(2018)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame. Short arm action with a slight stab into a high-3/4 release and regular effort. Quality rhythm with level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes upright. Fastball sat 81-83 mph with slight run and command. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and spin at 67-68 mph. Flashed a straight changeup at 68-70 mph.

+ Adam Goree, LHP/1B, Barbe HS(2017)
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed pitcher and first baseman with an average, athletic frame. Left-handed pitcher with a loose arm action into a high-3/4 release with solid balance, front side and some effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 83-85 mph with command. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with sharp break and fastball arm speed at 70-73 mph. Showed quality changeup with near fastball arm speed, fade action at 74-75 mph. Solid defender average hands, clean exchange into a long arm action, high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 73 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, solid lower half and balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, creates solid extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 91 mph. Also posted a 7.2 60 yard dash.

+ Austin Perrin, LHP/OF, Hahnville HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10, 181-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder with an average, strong frame. Left-handed pitcher with a simple, clean repeatable delivery with smooth rhythm, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Short, clean arm action with quick arm speed into a high-3/4 release and regular effort. Fastball sat 81-83 mph with slight sink and command. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape, gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 70-71 mph. Flashed solid straight changeup with near fastball arm speed at 74-76 mph. Solid defender with fluid footwork, clean exchange, playing through balls well. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup, smooth load, leg kick, explosive lower half, and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, creates quality extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 85 mph.

+ Payton Alexander, INF, Catholic(BR) HS(2017)
A 5-foot-11, 180-pound infielder with an average, athletic frame. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange that plays through balls well. Long arm action into a high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and a positional velocity of 81 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, leg kick, and solid lower half. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm that creates solid extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 85 mph. Also posted a 7.10 60 yard dash.

+ Jeffrey Elkins, OF, AES HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder with a lean, athletic frame. Fast twitchy athlete that posted a 7.1 60 yard dash. Quality defender with fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through balls well. Long arm action into a high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 81 mph. Right-handed hitter with balanced setup, no load, leg kick, explosive lower half, and solid balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, creates solid extension and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 87 mph.
