Senior Games: Infield Analysis

The Senior Games took place on Saturday, September 30th, at Nicholls State University, in Thibodeaux, LA. The event saw thirty 2018 prospects perform in front of several college coaches and the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff.

The Senior Games was filled with top-level unsigned senior talent from the state of Louisiana. A few weeks ago, our scouting staff dove into the top statistical performers from the event with the Stats Breakdown, which you can view HERE.

Today, we dive further into the event with analysis of the infielders in attendance.

Matthew Barthelemy RHP / 2B / Belle Chasse, LA / 2018

Athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame. Solid athlete running a 6.87 60-yard dash. Infielder with decent hands and footwork, making quick, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy, produced a positional velocity of 85 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, working backwards with leg lift load, landing with weight behind front foot. Line-drive type approach with direct path working inside the baseball and hand speed that produced an exit velocity of 85 mph.

Mateo Beltran 2B / SS / Acadiana, LA / 2018

Athletic 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame, medium build. Showed athleticism posting a 6.87 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter with a tall balanced setup, simple load into short stride, solid balance and good lower half use. Loose, quick hands with level path working slightly uphill through the finish, line-drive approach with smooth rhythm and solid bat speed, recorded an exit velocity of 91 mph. Defender with average hands and smooth footwork. Create momentum working through athletically after fielding ball deep with clean exchange into short high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced an 82 mph positional velocity.

Reid Dubois SS / 2B / Captain Shreve, LA / 2018

A 5-foot-11, 185-pound infielder with a medium, strong frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride and quality balance. Line-drive, gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level, slightly uphill path with strength at contact and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 83 mph. Quality defender with soft hands, solid footwork, and fields athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 81 mph. Posted a 7.44 60-yard dash.

Ju'Juan Franklin 1B / 3B / Acadiana, LA / 2018

Thick 6-foot, 225-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall, athletic setup, with loose rhythm, simple shift of weight into a short stride. Left-center field stroke with uphill finish that produced exit velocity of 94 mph. Defender with average hands, clean exchange, long arm action into high-3/4 release, accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 85 mph. Recorded a 7.76 60-yard dash time.

Dylan Gaspard 1B / OF / North Vermilion, LA / 2018

Athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from an athletic setup, loading on back leg with leg lift, and decent balance, into long stride. Gap-to-gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, uphill path and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 85 mph. Defender with average hands, clean exchange, with short, stiff arm action into high-3/4 release, produced a positional velocity of 69 mph with accuracy on throws. Recorded a 7.75 60-yard dash time.

Will Kelley 1B / OF / Alexandria, LA / 2018

Medium 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from a stacked, balanced setup with hands held low and tight to body. Leg lift load, with length in stride landing balanced at foot strike. Fluid rhythm with loose swing and line-drive type contact with bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 88 mph. First baseman with decent hands, smooth footwork, and clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 76 mph. Posted a 7.34 60-yard dash.

McCade LeBlanc 1B / OF / Houma Christian, LA / 2018

Athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from wide balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, and solid lower half use . Gap-to-gap type approach with rhythm, level to slight uphill path, and solid bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 89 mph. Solid defender with decent hands and footwork, and clean exchanges. Medium arm stroke into high-3/4 release recording a positional velocity of 69 mph. Ran a 7.75 60-yard dash.

Cayden Meeks OF / 2B / West Ouachita, LA / 2018

Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. Infielder with decent hands, developing footwork, slow, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and solid arm strength; recording a positional velocity of 84 mph. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup, with subtle leg lift load with short stride. Loose gap-to-gap approach and short, flat, path, producing an exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 7.07 60-yard dash.

Gabe Schenk 2B / SS / Live Oak, LA / 2018

Athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Left-handed hitter hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride and solid balance. Short stroke with level to uphill path and rhythm, hand speed producing an exit velocity of 81 mph. Infielder with decent hands and footwork, while playing through balls well. Long arm stroke into high-3/4 release, producing a positional velocity of 76 mph. Also posted a 7.47 60-yard dash.

Hunter Tabb 3B / 1B / Acadiana , LA / 2018

A 6-foot, 195-pound infielder medium frame. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through balls athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and a positional velocity of 82 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall setup, smooth load, short stride, and solid lower half. Line-drive, power type hitter with fluid rhythm, slight uphill path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 82 mph. Also posted a 7.3 60-yard dash.

Jordan Werner SS / 2B / Catholic (BR), LA / 2018

A 5-foot-9, 165-pound infielder with a medium, strong frame. Quality defender with average hands and clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, and short stride.
