Southern Louisiana Open: Outfield Analysis

On July 18, 2017 the Southern Louisiana Open was held at Bayou Segnette Field, home of Loyola University, in Westwego, LA. Since the event, we have released a Stats Breakdown story, and a Quick Hits from the day’s happenings.

Today, we look at a more in-depth analysis from the outfielders in attendance at the event.

Outfielders

+ Jordan Badame, OF, Dutchtown HS (LA), 2018
Athletic 6-foot, 183-pound frame with room for added strength. Outfielder with solid footwork and clean exchanges, working through baseball athletically. Short, stiff arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws, producing outfield positional velocity of 83 mph. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, open, athletic setup with high hands.  Smooth load, with short stride landing balanced and on time. Line drive/Gap-to-gap approach with level path and quality bat speed, produced exit velocity of 91 mph. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash.

+ Lathan Bourgeois, OF, St. Amant HS (LA), 2020
Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame with wide shoulders. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with simple, subtle leg lift load landing balanced. Early rhythm with gap-to-gap approach and level path and solid bat speed producing an exit velocity of 84 mph. Outfielder with average hands, solid footwork, long, clean exchanges while fielding athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws, produced a positional velocity of 81 mph. Infielder with average hands, choppy footwork and clean exchanges while playing through balls athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws, produced a positional velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.21 60-yard dash.

+ Michael Clement, OF, ED White HS (LA), 2019
Athletic 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame. Showed some athleticism running a 6.62 60-yard dash. Outfielder with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while working through baseball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and solid arm strength recording a positional velocity of 87 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall, open, athletic setup with high hands, working backwards with toe tap, and short stride. Line drive/gap-to-gap type approach with slight up hill path, developing rhythm and solid bat speed, produced exit velocity of 89 mph.

+ Tyson Cowart, OF, St. Amant HS (LA), 2018
Average 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from tall, open, athletic setup. Subtle leg lift with short stride and solid balance. Pull type approach with slight uphill stroke and developing rhythm; produced exit velocity of 80 mph. Outfielder with average hands, solid footwork, long, clean exchanges while fielding in  athletic position. Stiff arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws, produced a positional velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.12 60-yard dash.

+ Cameron Daigle, OF, Brusly HS (LA), 2018
Small 5-foot-9, 130-pound frame, with room for added strength. Outfielder with average hands, solid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through ball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws and solid arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 6.89 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with high hands.  Smooth, simple, leg lift landing slightly open. Line-drive type approach with level path, producing exit velocity of 78 mph.

+ Joseph Hamilton IV, OF, Plaquemine HS (LA), 2019
Small 5-foot-5, 135-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 7.01 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter hitting from tall, open athletic setup with low hands. Short simple load with short stride and balance. Slap type approach, with late rhythm, level path and developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 76 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork with clean exchanges while fielding on heels. Short, slow arm action into high-3/4 release with some accuracy and developing arm strength recording a positional velocity of 72 mph. Infielder with decent hands and developing actions. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy, produced a positional velocity of 73 mph.

+ Dylan Hammac, OF, Hammond HS (LA), 2018
Long and lanky 6-foot, 165-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall setup, starting on backside. Works backwards in load with subtle leg lift, slight arm bar and short stride, landing balanced. Long, level path with pull approach and developing bat speed producing an exit velocity of 77 mph. Outfielder with developing hands, smooth footwork and clean exchanges while working through baseball athletically. Short, slow arm action into high-3/4 release with big front-side actions, accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, recording a positional velocity of 77 mph. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash.

+ Cayden Meeks, OF, West Ouachita HS (LA), 2018
Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. Infielder with decent hands, developing footwork, slow, clean exchanges while playing through baseball athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and solid arm strength; recording a positional velocity of 84 mph. Outfielder with solid footwork and clean exchanged, working through baseball athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release, with accuracy and carry on throws, produced outfield positional velocity of 87 mph. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup, with no load of the hands, and subtle leg lift with short stride. Gap-to-gap approach and short, flat, path, producing an exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 7.11 60-yard dash.

+ Jaren Miller, OF, St. Augustine HS (LA), 2019
Athletic 5-foot-10, 179-pound frame. Showed some athleticism running a 6.89 60-yard dash. Outfielder with decent hands and slow, developing footwork with clean, slow exchanges while fielding on heels. Long, stiff arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and developing arm strength recording a positional velocity of 69 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from tall, balanced, athletic setup, with smooth load and short stride. Pull approach, with short path, developing rhythm and some stiffness in swing, produced exit velocity of 81 mph.

+ Stephen Powers, OF, Rummel HS (LA), 2019
Long 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Outfielder with developing hands, fluid footwork with clean exchanges while fielding the ball deep. Short arm action into ¾ release with accuracy and developing arm strength recording a positional velocity of 80 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from crouched, balanced, athletic setup, works backwards with the load, and short stride. Pull type approach with rotational, slight uphill path, produced exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash.

+ Kyler Rawls, OF, West Ouachita HS (LA), 2019
Athletic 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. Outfielder with average hands, solid footwork, clean exchanges while in athletic fielding position. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with some accuracy and solid arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 83 mph. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, balanced, athletic setup with loose rhythm in hands. Simple toe tap load, short stride and slight arm bar. Gap-to-gap type approach with level path and developing rhythm; produced exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 7.44 60-yard dash.

+ Bryce Wilson, OF, Chalmette HS (LA), 2020
Average 5-foot-11, 150-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 6.97 60-yard dash. Outfielder with average hands, developing footwork, long exchanges while fielding baseball deep and on heels. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 71 mph. Right-handed hitter hits from tall, open, athletic setup, works backwards in load with leg lift, and solid balance while collapsing on backside. Pull approach with long slight up hill stroke and fluid rhythm; produced exit velocity of 75 mph.
