The Prep Baseball Report Underclass Games took place on Monday, June 29th at Tulane University New Orleans, LA. This event featured 2016, 2017 and 2018 graduates, and acts as an identifier for this summer’s prestigious PBR Future Games powered by Under Armour.

Today we’ll take a look at the top infielders from the event, led by Teurlings Catholic’s Hayden Cantrelle and Neville’s Will Ryan.

Let’s take a look at the top infielders from this year’s Underclass Games:

Top Infielders

1. Hayden Cantrelle, SS, Teurlings Catholic HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound short-stop with an average, athletic frame. Switch hitter that hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and excellent balance. Showed a compact, flat bat path with line-drive, gap to gap approach with fluid rhythm an bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 81 mph. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, quick, clean exchange and plays through balls well. Showed solid arm strength out of a high-3/4 arm slot that produced an 80 mph positional velocity with accuracy on throws.

2. Will Ryan, SS, Neville HS(2017)
A 6-foot-2, 179-pound shortstop with an athletic, strong frame. Quality defender with soft hands, quick footwork, quick and clean exchange with a short arm action into a high-3/4 arm slot that showed accuracy and produced an 81 mph positional velocity. Right-handed hitter with an athletic setup, smooth load, slight leg kick, explosive lower half, excellent balance that showed a level bat path, line-drive, gap to gap approach and fluid rhythm that produced an exit velocity of 84 mph.

3. Grant Schulz, MINF, Holy Cross HS(2016)
A 6-foot, 175-pound middle infielder with a lean, athletic frame. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange that plays through balls nicely. Showed a loose arm out of a high-3/4 slot with accuracy that produced a 79 mph positional velocity. Right-handed hitter with an athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, quality lower half, and solid balance. Displayed a flat bat path with extension and a gap to gap approach that produced an 85 mph exit velocity.

+ Caleb Armstrong, INF, Ouachita Parish HS(2016)
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from an athletic setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and solid balance. Showed fluid rhythm, quality extension, and a gap to gap approach with quality bat speed that recorded an 85 mph exit velocity. Solid defender that shows soft hands, a clean exchange and solid arm strength that recorded an 83 mph positional velocity.

+ Preston Faulkner, 3B, Live Oak HS(2017)
A 6-foot, 194-pound third baseman with a strong, physical, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter with a tall, balanced setup, smooth load, leg kick and solid balance throughout the swing. Line-drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach, fluid rhythm throughout that showed exceptional bat speed recording a 91 mph exit velocity. Defensively he showed soft hands, fluid footwork, a quick and clean exchange, played through balls nicely and produced an 86 mph positional velocity from the outfield with a long arm action into a high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws.

+ Nick Fruge, SS, St. Thomas More HS(2017)
A 5-foot-9, 155-pound middle infielder with a small, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter that recorded an 86 mph exit velocity. Hits out of a balanced, athletic setup, short stride, shows fluidity and rhythm in his load, as well as keeping his hands inside the baseball nicely. Short, level path with gap to gap approach. Solid defender with soft hands, quick exchange, showed accuracy on throws across the diamond that recorded an 83 mph positional velocity.

+ Mason Granger, SS, Erath HS(2018)
A 5-foot-10, 155-pound infielder with a lean, athletic frame. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through well, loose arm with accuracy on throws out of a high-3/4 slot that recorded a 76 mph positional velocity. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup with a short stride, quality balance, level bat path and a line-drive approach that recorded a 78 mph exit velocity.

+ Ian Landreneau, 3B, John Curtis HS(2018)
A 5-foot-11, 160-pound infielder with an average, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter with a balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half, and solid balance. Showed looseness in the barrel with whip in the hitting zone, gets solid extension, has fluid rhythm and a gap to gap approach. Solid defender that projects to third base down the road with soft hands and solid arm strength that produced a positional velocity of 76 mph with carry on throws.

+ Matthew Muhleisen, MINF, Holy Cross HS(2016)
A 6-foot-1, 187-pound infielder with a strong athletic frame. Right-handed hitter with an athletic setup, slight wrap in the load, short stride with a tap, solid lower half, and quality balance. Creates quality extension throughout the bat path with fluid rhythm and a gap to gap approach that showed solid bat speed producing an exit velocity of 82 mph. Quality defender with soft hands that takes good angles, but shows third base type feet with an over the top arm slot that produced a 76 mph positional velocity.

+ Miguel Reyes, CINF, Lafayettte HS(2017)
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound infielder and right-handed pitcher with a large, physical, strong, and athletic frame. Right-handed hitter that hits out of an athletic, open setup with a slight wrap and bar in the load. Short stride with an explosive lower half and solid balance. Displays big raw power with explosive bat speed and present pull power. Bat path has a tendency to be in and out of zone and there is slight stiffness at times in the swing, but shows exceptional bat speed that recorded an exit velocity of 93 mph. Solid defense infielder with soft hands, a clean exchange, and carry on throws. Footwork is slow and he has a tendency to play on his heels which projects him to be a third baseman with solid arm strength that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph.

+ Taylor Young, MINF, West Monroe HS(2017)
A 5-foot-9, 160-pound infielder and outfielder with a small, athletic frame. Solid defender from both the outfield and infield that showed soft hands, fluid footwork, quick and clean exchange, and accuracy on throws that produced a 75 mph positional velocity. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, no stride, explosive lower half, excellent balance, and solid bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 82 mph. Also displayed a compact, short stroke with fluid rhythm and line-drive approach.
