Underclass Trials: Outfield Analysis

At the end of May, the annual Underclass Trials was held at St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Hammond, LA. Today, we look at a more in-depth analysis from the underclass outfielders in attendance at the event.

+ Preston Canale, OF, Fontainebleau, 2020
Medium 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall, athletic setup, with no load and short stride. Opposite field type approach with short path, developing bat speed and late rhythm, produced exit velocity of 70 mph. Defender with developing hands and footwork with long exchanges. Long arm action into high-¾ release with accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, recording a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.5 60-yard dash.

+ Dylan Carmouche, OF, University Lab, 2020
Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, currently ranked No. 2 in Louisiana’s 2020 class, No. 67 Overall. Long, athletic 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame. Switch hitter that hits from athletic, balanced setup, with short stride and solid balance. Gap to gap type approach with slight uphill path with strength to pull side, producing an exit velocity of 84 mph. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while playing through balls athletically. Loose arm action into 3/4 release with inconsistent accuracy and quality arm strength, posting a positional velocity of 88 mph from outfield and 82 mph from infield. Posted a 7.26 60-yard dash time.

Currently ranked No. 77 in Louisiana’s 2019 class. Long 6-foot, 140-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall, athletic, balanced setup, working backwards in load with toe tap and short stride. Line drive/pull type approach with slight uphill path, with developing rhythm and solid bat speed, produced exit velocity of 81 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork. Long arm action into high-¾ release with inconsistent accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, recording a positional velocity of 72 mph. Displayed athleticism running a 6.9 60-yard dash.

+ Jacob LaPrairie, OF, St. Thomas More, 2020
Medium 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges and plays through balls athletically. Long arm action into high-¾ release with some accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, produced a 75 mph positional velocity. Leftt-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup. Works backwards with leg lift load, dives on front side, with fair balance. Line drive/gap-to-gap type approach with short path, fluid rhythm and solid bat speed, producing exit velocity of 84 mph. Displayed athleticism running  a 7.01 60-yard dash.

+ Michael Latulas, OF, Loreauville, 2020
Currently ranked No. 15 in Louisiana’s 2020 class. Long 6-foot-1, 187-pound frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from athletic, balanced setup, with short stride. Gap to gap type approach with solid bat speed, level path, and fluid rhythm; produced an exit velocity of 84 mph. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, slow exchanges while playing through balls athletically. Short arm action into high-¾ release with accuracy and developing arm strength, producing a positional velocity of 72 mph. Showed athleticism posting a 6.86 60-yard dash.

Currently ranked No. 88 in Louisiana’s 2019 class. Long 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, with no load and short stride while collapsing on backside. Line drive type approach with slight uphill path, fair bat speed and early rhythm, produced exit velocity of 75 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork with clean, quick exchanges while fielding on heels. Long arm action into high-¾ release with inconsistent accuracy and solid arm strength recording a positional velocity of 80 mph. Displayed athleticism running a 7.1 60-yard dash.

+ Garrison Lowder, OF, West Ouachita, 2019
Long 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. Showed some athleticism running a 7.14 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter that hits from athletic, balanced setup, with no load and short stride. Line drive type approach with slight uphill late rhythm and developing bat speed, produced exit velocity of 71 mph. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork with slow exchanges. Stiff arm action into high-¾ release with some accuracy and no carry on throws, with developing arm strength. Recorded a positional velocity of 69 mph.

Long 5-foot-11, 140-pound frame. Outfielder with developing hands and footwork with clean exchanges while fielding on heels. Slow arm action into ¾ release with inconsistent accuracy and developing arm strength recording a positional velocity of 73 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall, balanced, athletic setup, works backwards with the load, and short stride. Line drive type approach with long path and some stiffness in swing, produced exit velocity of 74 mph. Showed some athleticism running a 7.26 60-yard dash.

+ Justin San Salvador, OF, Pope John Paul, 2019
Currently ranked No. 64 in Louisiana’s 2019 class. Long 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame. Showed athleticism running a 6.93 60-yard dash time. Switch hitter that hits from athletic, balanced setup, with short stride and  solid balance. Gap to gap type approach with slight uphill path, some stiffness in swing and solid bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defender with developing hands and footwork, while fielding on heels. Short arm action into low-3/4 release with inconsistent accuracy and solid arm strength, posting a positional velocity of 80 mph.

Long 5-foot-11, 135-pound frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, works backwards in load with leg lift, and solid balance. Opposite field/line-drive type approach with short stroke that works inside the baseball with developing rhythm; produced exit velocity of 78 mph. Outfielder with average hands, solid footwork, long exchanges while fielding on heels. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with some accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, produced a positional velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.6 60-yard dash.

Currently ranked No. 52 in Louisiana’s 2019 class. Athletic 5-foot-8, 180-pound frame. Displayed elite-level athleticism with fast-twitch actions running a 6.58 60-yard dash. Left-handed hitter that hits from athletic, open setup, with no load and short stride. Line drive/ gap-to-gap type approach with level path, early rhythm and some bat speed, produced exit velocity of 81 mph. Outfielder with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges while fielding athletically. Long arm action into high-¾ release with some accuracy on throws and developing arm strength, recording a positional velocity of 76 mph.
