Underclass Trials Statistical Analysis

The annual Underclass Trials took place on Tuesday, June 16th at Northlake Christian School in Covington, LA. The invite only event saw 50+ of the best underclass prospects from across the state of Louisiana. 

We begin our instant analysis from Tuesday’s event with a look at some top statistical performers. We measured six separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below.

Tuesday’s 60-times were eye-popping, as 9 players turned in sub-7.00 times on grass. Caleb Stelly (Parkview Baptist, 2022) turned in an event best 60-yard dash, posting a time of 6.45-second. Aiden Lambert (Catholic (BR), 2022) and Ethan Sinitiere (Southside, 2022) were the other two players to finish under 6.80-seconds, with times of 6.76-seconds, and 7.78-seconds, respectively.

On the mound, the Underclass Trials saw 9 players flash a max velocity of 80 mph or better. Leading the way was Brandon Levy (Parkway, 2023) posting an 88 mph max velocity on Tuesday. Blake Lobell (Springfield, 2022) and Tate Hess (Singer, 2023) also had quality outings on the mound, working up to 87 mph and 84 mph respectively. 

Tuesday's event also saw 9 players post an exit velocity of 90 or better including Caleb Stelly (Parkview Baptist, 2022) who led the way with a 100 mph exit velocity from a tee, while also flashing solid pull side strength during batting practice. Sladen Lyles (Springfield, 2022) and Payton Albert (Vermillion Catholic, 2022) rounded out the top 3 as both checked in with an exit velocity of 96 mph. 

Blake Lobell (Springfield, 2022) led the way on the infield positional velocity leaderboard checking in with an event best 91 mph infield velocity, joining Tyler Fitch (Dunham, 2022) followed him up with a positional velocity of 89 mph while Brandon Levy (Parkway, 2023) rounded out the top 3 at 86 mph.

Alex Walsh (Alexandria, 2023) topped the leaderboard with an event best 90 mph outfield velocity, while Brandon Levy (Parkway, 2023) was next posting an 88 mph OF velo. Tied for the number 3 spot were Caleb Stelly (Parkview Baptist, 2022), Donovan Lasalle (Barbe, 2023) and Jude Gremillion (Central, 2022) who all posted 86 mph positional velocities. 

Blake Lobell (Springfield, 2022) also showed off high-level arm strength behind the dish, posting an event best 82 mph catcher velocity. While Henton Roberts (Neville, 2022) checked in at number 2 posting a 77 mph catcher velocity. Sam Eppinette (Fountainebleau, 2023) and Hunter Azemar (Southside, 2023) also showed off top end arm strength, as both posted a positional velocity of 74 mph.

Blake Lobell (Springfield, 2022) also turned in the top catcher pop time of the event with a time of 1.97-seconds with clean transfers and accurate throws. Sam Eppinette (Fountainebleau, 2023) was second checking in with a 2.00-seconds pop time with Hunter Azemar (Southside, 2023) rounding out the top 3 at 2.01-seconds.
