May 22, 2017
Louisiana Scouting Director
The Underclass Trials took place on Saturday, May 20th, at St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Hammond, LA. The open event saw fifty-eight underclassmen from across the state of Louisiana in attendance.
Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2020 OF/LHP Dylan Carmouche (University Lab) showed why he was the first 2020 off the board in Louisiana on Saturday. An athletic 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame with loads of projection remaining, Carmouche showed off his electric left-handed arm, sitting 85-86 mph in his bullpen session. In addition, Carmouche showed promise of being a potential two-way player as he advances in his career, throwing 88 mph from the outfield, and showing off advanced feel for the infield at first base. He is also a switch hitter, that showed strength in batting practice, going deep with wood during his left-handed round.
2019 OF Terry Tolliver, Jr. (Parkview Baptist) kicked off the Underclass Trials in impressive fashion, posting a blazing 6.58 60-yard dash, showing explosive, fast-twitch athleticism. A left-handed hitter, Tolliver possess the raw tools to develop into a potent offensive threat down the road with his premium speed.
2019 RHP/3B Connor Jones (West Ouachita) is an arm to watch in North Louisiana, as the 5-foot-10, 165-pound right-hander sat 84-87 mph, flashing a sharp breaking ball with tight spin and depth at 71-73 mph during his bullpen session. Jones’ teammate at West Ouachita, 2019 SS/RHP Peyton Parker also had an impressive day, finding himself near the top of many categories. Parker posted a 6.98 60-yard dash, and posted the top exit velocity of 86 mph.
2020 OF Michael Latulas (Loreauville) is certainly an advanced athlete for his age. A physical 6-foot-1, 187-pound frame with a powerful lower half, Latulas posted a 6.86 60-yard dash. A left-handed hitter, Latulas showed a crude, yet explosive and power stroke with lightning quick hand speed. During his batting practice round, Latulas flashed present power making hard, loud contact.
A complete recap of the event will be coming in the following weeks.
