Unsigned Senior Showcase: Stats Breakdown

The Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on Sunday January 21^st, at Segnette Field in Westwego, LA, home of Loyola University. The open event saw thirty players from all across Louisiana perform in front of several college coaches and the PBR Scouting Staff.

A complete recap of the event will be coming in the following weeks, but today we begin our post-event coverage with a look at the top statistical performers.

2018 RHP Collin Johnson (Oak Forest Academy, LA) posted an event best 86 mph fastball velocity, showing late life to his arm side, and quality feel for secondary stuff.

2018 RHP Matthew Champagne (Hahnville HS, LA) pitched 82-84 mph, running his fastball up to 85 mph. The 6-foot, 176-pound right-hander showed polish to his delivery, commanding the fastball to both sides of the plate, and also flashed a quality changeup with deception.

2018 SS Brayden Morrow (St. Thomas More HS, LA) impressed several in attendance on Sunday, posting one of the top all-around performances. The lanky, projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound middle infielder showed actions, fluid footwork, and feel during the defensive workout portion of the event, as well as arm strength with carry across the diamond, posting a positional velocity of 83 mph. Offensively, Morrow showed strength to his right-handed swing during batting practice, and posted an exit velocity of 90 mph.

2018 C Julian Leon (Breaux Bridge HS, LA) posted an event best 1.91-seconds pop time, and an 81 mph positional velocity, showing off his present arm strength. A physical 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame, the right-handed hitter also posted an exit velocity of 86 mph.

2018 LHP/OF Kade Gonsoulin (Catholic(NI) HS, LA) is one of the top remaining left-handed pitchers in Louisiana’s 2018 class. Showing polish, and athleticism to his delivery, the 6-foot, 180-pound senior pitched 81-84 mph with his fastball, and commanded the pitch to both sides of the plate. In addition, he flashed a tight spinning breaking ball with depth, as well as feel for a quality change up. Also participating in the morning session, Gonsoulin posted an 85 mph positional velocity, and a 91 mph exit velocity.
