With yesterday’s release of the Updated Overall Class of 2017 Rankings, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana is pleased to unveil the updated Louisiana class of 2017 rankings.

With the conclusion of the fall season that included a trip to the WWBA in Jupiter, numerous visits to the premier select programs this fall, the Prospect ID Showcase in September, and of course, the premier event in Louisiana the Pre-Season All-State Games, PBR-Louisiana has compiled its notes and data to update the class of 2017 rankings.

Let’s dive into the rankings and see the shakeups.

+ The big three names in Louisiana continue to make big noise. not only on a local and regional level, but also a national level as all three players crack the top 15 of PBR’s Overall Rankings. OF Daniel Cabrera (John Curtis HS) retains his number 1 ranking in Louisiana, however he drops to number 4 in the overall rankings. RHP Blayne Enlow (St. Amant HS) stays at number 2 in Louisiana and moves up to number 8 in the overall rankings. OF Jacob Pearson (West Monroe HS) also holds his spot at number 3 in Louisiana, however he climbs all the way to number 13 in the overall rankings. The tool sets of Cabrera, Enlow, and Pearson already have area scouts buzzing, and the feeling that the 2017 class is one of the best Louisiana has seen in quite some time is becoming a common theme amongst scouts and college coaches alike in the region.

+ Joining Cabrera and Enlow, as LSU commits in the top 10 are: OF Nick Webre (Teurlings Catholic HS), who checks in at No. 4 and RHP/INF Miguel Reyes (Lafayette HS), who checks in at No. 8. Both players showed well at the Pre-Season All-State Games, as Webre is premium left-handed hitter with present power, and Reyes is a big, strong right-hander with a fastball up to 90 mph and the ability to spin a hard, tight spinning slider.

+ Toolsy Tulane commit, OF Stephen Sepcich (Jesuit HS) checks in at No. 5. A physical, athletic frame with above average arm strength, plus bat speed that runs well for his size, Sepcich is sure to attract attention from Major League Baseball in the near future. RHP Ma’Khail Hilliard (Central(BR) HS) climbs all the way to No. 6 after his performance at the Pre-Season All-State Games where he was nothing short of electric with a fastball up to 88 mph with plus, late life and flashing an above average breaking ball.

+ Other big risers who climbed into the top 20 are INF/OF Taylor Young (West Monroe HS), OF Jeffrey Elkins (AES HS), and OF Preston Faulkner (Live Oak HS).

+ New to the rankings are: INF Payton Alexander (Catholic(BR) HS), OF Jamarian Crain (Franklinton HS), RHP Mickey Toscano (Holy Cross HS), OF Jansen Fontenot (South Beauregard HS), INF Parker Evans (Catholic(BR) HS), RHP Austin Haensel (John Curtis HS), OF Daniel Moran (Catholic(BR) HS), INF Griffith Olinde (Claiborne Christian HS), C Fritz Walker (Mandeville HS), and INF CJ Turner (East St. John HS).
