New Orleans Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Metairie, LA - Our first event of the new year was held this past Saturday January 6, 2024 at Mike Miley Stadium with our New Orleans Preseason ID.  This event consisted of uncommitted high school prospects in the 2024-2027 classes.  Today, we continue our post-event coverage of the event with another edition of Quick Hits, which focuses on some of the prospects that caught our eye.  Be sure to follow us, on all of our social media platforms, for continued coverage of the New Orleans Preseason ID!

Uncommitted Seniors to Watch

+ 2024 INF Ryan Gregson (Hahnville HS)

6'2" 190 lbs. athletic frame with a strong lower-half.  The Hahnville product showed well in his first PBR event and is an uncommitted prospect that should be on radars.  Gregson is a really good overall athlete and runner, as he posted an event-best 6.66 laser-timed 60.  He impacted the ball from gap to gap with a 91.2 mph max exit velocity as well.

+ 2024 INF Brady Johnson (Slidell HS)

Athletic 5'8" 175 lbs. frame.  Johnson was another solid uncommitted senior prosepct from Saturday.  The Slidell product showed solid actions on the infield and took a clean, professional round of BP with a max exit velocity of 88.2 mph.  He also ran a 7.27 laser-timed 60.

+ 2024 C Drake Detillier (South Terrebonne HS)

Physical and durable 6'0" 205 lbs. frame.  The South Terrebonne HS product showed some of the best pull-side power potential on Saturday, as he recorded a max exit velocity of 96.0 mph, which was good for second-best at the event.  Detillier also threw an event-best 81 mph from the crouch with 2.01-2.13 pop times, while also showing solid receiving and blocking skills.

Tons of Uncommitted Juniors

+ 2025 INF/RHP Brayden Clement (South Terrebonne HS)

5'11" 165 lbs. athletic build with some projection left.  Clement was one of the best two-way prosepcts at the event.  At the plate, there's present bat speed, while working middle to pull-side with a max exit velocity of 89.3 mph.  He's also got a really good arm, as he posted event-bests from the OF at 93 mph and the INF at 89 mph.  On the mound, it's a mid-80's heater mixed in with a short/tight mid-70's SL.

+ 2025 MIF Ryder Planchard (Holy Cross HS)

Lean and wiry build at 5'10" 155 lbs. with plenty of room to continue to add strength.  The Holy Cross product continues to show improvements each time that we see him.  He recorded a personal-best 7.09 laser-timed 60.  At the plate, he hit the ball really well up the middle and to the opposite field gap.  Defensively, Planchard took the best infield round of the day, as he displayed soft hands and athletic actions to go along with an accurate arm on all throws across the diamond.

+ 2025 RHP Payton Stubbs (Destrehan HS)

5'11" 175 lbs. with some present physicality.  Stubbs was one of our favorite guys on the mound from Saturday's event.  The Destrehan product worked at a quick and up-tempo pace, moving aggressively down the slope.  He used a compact and quick arm stroke to release the ball from a 3/4 slot.  His FB sat 85-87 mph and showed good life through the zone with spin rates up to 2429 RPM's, and his 73-75 mph SL and 78-79 mph CH tunneled well off of it.

+ 2025 OF Tyler Fischer (Mandeville HS)

6'1" 175 lbs. lean and athletic frame with room to add strength.  The Mandeville product put together a solid overall day with some of the best overall tools from the event.  He showed that he's a good runner, as he posted a 6.84 laser-timed 60.  Fischer's BP was really good too, as he worked on-plane to contact and stayed through extension a long time, while working middle to pull-side with a max exit velocity of 95.1 mph.  He took clean routes in the outfield with an accurate arm up to 86 mph as well.

+ 2025 OF Dominic Mendieta (Rummel HS)

5'10" 170 lbs. frame with present lower-half strength.  Mendieta was another really good athlete from Saturday with above average speed, for an outfielder, as he posted a 6.79 in the 60, which was good for second-best at the event.  At the plate, he impacted the ball well to all fields, while keeping an explosive and tight turn to contact with 23.1 g's of max rotational acceleration.

+ 2025 RHP/INF Gerald Sonnier (New Iberia HS)

Projectable 6'3" 180 lbs. frame.  The New Iberia product was one of the more intriguing prospects from Saturday, and will be a prospect that we monitor moving forward.  On the mound, he's an athletic mover down the slope with a quick arm stroke.  His FB sat 82-84 mph with good arm-side life that averaged 17.9" of horizontal movement.  Sonnier also showed aptitude for spin with a short/tight SL and an "11-5" shaped CB with spin rates up to 2445 RPM's.  Offensively, he showed present power to the pull-side with a max exit velocity of 92.8 mph.

Young Prospects to Follow

+ 2026 LHP/1B Alex Scheuermann (St. Martin's Episcopal)

We last saw the St. Martin's product at our Baton Rouge Fall ID, just a couple of months ago, and he's made some significant strides in just a short couple of months.  Scheuermann showed increased bat speed at the plate, driving several balls to the pull-side with a max exit velocity of 92 mph, which was good for a +5 mph jump from October.  On the mound, he's very sound mechanically and repeats a smooth and easy delivery with little effort.  His FB sat 80-81 mph and he was able to command it to both sides of the plate, while also showing the ability to land all of his off-speed offerings.

+ 2026 OF Gavin Palmisano (Jesuit HS)

6'1" 195 lbs. with present physicality and projection still left.  The Jesuit product was another interesting sophomore prospect from Saturday.  The first thing that stands out is his physical frame with long levers.  Palmisano got into several balls from the middle to pull-side during BP with an event best 96.5 mph max exit velocity.  He also showed that he's a good runner as well, as he recorded a 7.05 laser-timed 60.  He'll be a guy that we definitely get out to see this spring.

+ 2027 LHP/1B Larry Rodrigue (Destrehan HS)

Physical 6'2" 215 lbs. frame.  Rodrigue looks more like a senior than he does a freshman.  The Destrehan product showed present pull-side power during BP with a 93.2 mph max exit velocity, and we liked him just as much, if not more, on the mound.  He ranged anywhere from 80-82 mph with his FB and showed the ability to kill spin with a late-fading 68-71 mph CH, and showed developing spin on a mid-60's CB.

+ 2026 INF/RHP Drew LeJeune (Notre Dame HS)

Strong 6'0" 165 lbs. frame with more still to come.  The Notre Dame HS product took a quality BP round on Saturday.  LeJeune delivered a heavy barrel to contact, while staying gap to gap in his approach, and recorded a max exit velocity of 91.8 mph.  Strike-thrower on the mound as well with a three-pitch mix.
