Quick Hits: Louisiana Senior Games

Hammond, LA - On Sunday, September 8, 2024, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to Southeastern Louisiana University, to host our second event of the fall with our Louisiana Senior Games, which featured over 80 uncommitted prospects in the state's 2025 class with over a dozen college recruiters in attendance.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, defensive evaluations, batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion, and the pitchers were able to face hitters live with Trackman Baseball running to capture all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the standout performers from Sunday.

TOP PERFORMERS

+ 2025 RHP Mac Griffin (Walker HS)

6'1" 150 lbs. with a ton of room to add strength.  The Walker product was one of the biggest winners from Sunday's event.  We first saw him last spring pitching for the Wildcats, and he was really good against a tough Dutchtown team.  When looking at his Trackman metrics from Sunday, it's easy to see why he had such success against the Griffins and again at the Senior Games.  Griffin's FB sat 84-87 mph with spin rates up to near 2500 RPM's, but it was his feel for spin on his 72-75 mph SL that was the real separator, as the pitch had elite spin rates in the 2654-2917 RPM range.  He only allowed one free pass and struck out five over his 2 IP, in what was the most dominant Senior Games outing.  Griffin is also pretty young for his grade, as he won't turn 18 until April of next year, which likely means that there's more jumps coming in the near future.

+ 2025 OF Jesse Lord (Central BR HS)

The Central product put together arguably the best offensive performance last Sunday.  His BP round was filled with barrel after barrel through the middle of the field, and it translated in game.  Lord uses a simple no-stride load to deliver a heavy barrel to contact with a line drive approach from gap-to-gap.  He collected three barrels during Game 1 on Sunday that included a double to dead centerfield and another opposite-field single.  Lord also showed a strong and accurate arm from the outfield, up to 90 mph, which was good for the best at the event.  

+ 2025 RHP Troy Green (Slidell HS)

Green was another upside arm that showed well on Sunday and is worthy of being closely monitored moving forward for college programs looking to add an arm to their 2025 recruiting class.  With a 6'1" 160 lbs. wiry frame, there's plenty of room to add strength in the future.  The Slidell product is an athletic mover down the slope with a quick arm.  He worked his FB in the 84-87 mph range and the pitch showed life through the zone.  His 72-74 mph SL was sharp at times and he did show feel for a 77-78 mph CH.  It was more control over command for Green on Sunday, but there's no denying the present arm talent, as he's another guy that we expect to see jumps from in the future.

+ 2025 MIF Kelan Guidry (Parkview Baptist HS)

The Parkview Baptist product earned the starting shortstop for the Eagles last spring and continues to show well each time that we see him.  He's a quality defender on the infield and that showed on Sunday, as he made every play that was hit to him at all three infield spots.  Offensively, he understands who he is right now and that's a guy that is tasked with working deep into counts and hitting the ball hard on a line or on the ground.  Guidry finished the day with two hits, one an opposite field RBI single and the other was a hard ground ball single up the middle.  

+ 2025 RHP Jake Clifton (Pearl River HS)

6'2" 195 lbs. durable frame with a starter's profile.  The Pearl River product was a "strike machine" last Sunday, as he aggressively attacked hitters to induce weak contact.  Clifton's FB sat in the 82-85 mph range with some slight cutting action at times and spin rates up to 2479 RPM's.  He went to his mid-70's SL early for strikes and was able to bury the pitch with two strikes for swing & miss.  The uncommitted senior finished his two shutout innings pitched with 3 K's.

+ 2025 C Jack Ortego (Teurlings Catholic HS)

The Teurlings Catholic product had one of the better performances last Sunday amongst the backstops that were in attendance.  Ortego recorded a 76 mph positional velocity from the crouch with pop times of 2.00-2.11, which translated in game, as he caught a runner attempting to steal thrid base in Game 1.  At the plate, he collected a couple of barrels with one being an opposite field 2 RBI double during Game 1.  

+ 2025 RHP Maddox Ardoin (Sam Houston HS)

We had heard that Ardoin had been throwing the ball well in his bullpens and flatgrounds leading up to Sunday's Senior Games and he turned in a quality outing at the event.  The Sam Houston product got the start in Game 1 and tossed two shutout innings pitched with 4 K's.  He got ahead early in the account with his 84-87 mph FB and showed the ability to land a 69-70 mph SL for strikes.  Ardoin killed spin with his low-70's KNK and went to the pitch often with two strikes to collect whiffs.  He should log valuable innings for the Broncos, as they look to make another trip to the state tournament this spring.

+ 2025 3B Kanyon Griffin (Acadina HS)

Physical 5'11" 210 lbs. frame with a strong lower-half.  The former Jr. Future Gamer produced loud results at the plate, as he posted event-bests in max exit velocity at 100.2 mph and average exit velocity at 93.1 mph.  Griffin starts with a higher hand-set, before using a modified leg kick load and stride to get to center and then uses strong wrists and forearms to drop the bat head to the ball with a direct path.  He profiles as a middle of the order type of bat to drive in runs.  Defensively, he also showed well during the workout portion, as he moved around well and was light on his feet for a more physical prospect, so we definitely feel that he has a chance to play the hot corner and could definitely play first base.  

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

+ 2025 INF Ryan Berard (Teurlings Catholic HS)

Picked up a pull-side RBI single in Game 1 that registered 93 mph off the bat and made the best defensive play of the day on a diving stop to his left at third base to rob a single.

+ 2025 LHP Kade Bryant (Benton HS)

Benton's returning #1 starter tossed two shutout innings on Sunday and gave up only 1 H with 1 BB and 2 K's.  Bryant showed the ability to land three pitches for strikes to all quadrants in any count.

+ 2025 C/RHP Brayden Calamari (Slidell HS)

Calamari blistered the hardest hit ball of the day during Game 2 on a double to the wall in left field that registered at 97 mph off the bat.

+ 2025 RHP Jack Carlisle (Northwood HS)

The Northwood product filled up the zone and made quick work of hitters on Sunday, as he tossed two shutout innings and worked his FB up to a personal-best 85 mph.

+ 2025 UTIL Mason Hickman (Mandeville HS)

Hickman finished in the Top-3 of the 60 (6.77) and infield velocity (83 mph), while also finishing 4th in outfield velocity (86 mph).  He also turned a SL down and in to collect a pull-side double in Game 1.

+ 2025 INF Chip Joiner (West Feliciana HS)

The West Feliciana product turned in a 6.85 in the 60 and took quality at-bats during in game.  He picked up a really nice line drive double to left centerfield in Game 2.

+ 2025 1B Mason Leblanc (Ascension Christian HS)

Leblanc picked up a RBI single during Game 1 and also finished with the second-best average exit velocity at 91 mph.

+ 2025 RHP Aiden McCann (Benton HS)

The Benton product tossed two shutout innings pitched with only 1 BB and 3 K's, while working his FB up to 85 mph.  

+ 2025 INF Landen Rice (Kinder HS)

Rice swung the bat well on Sunday and hit one of the hardest hit balls the other way with an opposite field single that registered at 94 mph off the bat.

+ 2025 RHP/OF Caleb Wall (Dutchtown HS)

One of the two-way standouts from the Senior Games; Wall posted an 88 mph positional velocity from the outfield and also posted the third-best average exit velocity at 90.6 mph.  The Dutchtown product also struck out two over his two innings pitched, while giving up 2 H and 1 ER.
