Harvard Has Always Been The Choice For Wang

WABAN, Ma. - Some college commitment choices are easier than others. That was the case for Nick Wang, who has known all along that Harvard was the right place for his future.

“I grew up on campus on the athletic side,” Wang reflected. “My dad is a doctor at Harvard and I grew up going to football games there. The trainers would always ask ‘Are you coming here, and I’d say yes.’ It’s really the only school I knew.

“I did go to a Dartmouth camp, but Harvard is really the only school I went for and they offered.”

That came before the last high school baseball season and soon after Wang accepted. The official announcement came in late summer.

“From a school perspective, I really like Cambridge,” Wang explained about his love for Harvard. “I like that it’s in the middle of the city and that there are always things going on. I like the coaching staff, too. I just kind of grew up there and it’s always been my dream school.”

Combining the strong academics with athletics is not an easy task.

“The hardest part is getting in,” Wang said. “Going to BB&N (Buckingham, Brown and Nichols High School) and the rigorous academic side of it, I’ll be prepared. I’ll definitely run into some bumps, but I’m not too worried about it.”

Harvard sees a lot Wang has to offer the baseball program.

“They like my versatility,” the BB&N senior said. “The best thing about my game is that I can play anywhere. This summer I played every position but catcher.”

A center fielder at age 11, Wang moved to shortstop for his final year of Little League.

“I’ve always liked infield, but being able to play outfield is helpful,” the 6-0 195-pounder explained. “When I was younger my dad hit me tennis balls as high as he could and that helped me. I’ve also got a lot of athleticism.”

The 156th-ranked New England 2020 believes he can bring a number of qualities to the Harvard program.
