McCarthy 'Likes His Options Right Now'

Wil McCarthy 3B / 1B / Boston College, MA / 2019

BOSTON - Playing for Boston College High School, Wil McCarthy has seen first hand what tough competition is all about.

“We play in the Catholic Conference which is the best there is in Massachusetts,” McCarthy said. “Along with Catholic Prep, we made it to the Super 8 last year but lost in the semifinals.”

The BC senior hopes the taste of success continues while facing strong opposition the four years following spring graduation.

“I like my options right now,” the 49th-rated 2019 player in New England said about his college opportunities out there. “I want to go where I can play all four years.”

What level that is remains to be seen.

“I flew under the radar of Division I schools,” McCarthy noted. “I know I’m just as good as some of those out there because I’ve played against them, I just wasn’t in the right place at the right time. But I like where I’m at now.”

Salve Regina, Massachusetts-Dartmouth and Saint Anselm are among those currently under consideration by the 6-2 195-pound corner infielder.

“I went to two PBR events,” McCarthy said in reference to Top Prospect Games at Franklin Pierce June 26 and the TPGs at the University of Massachusetts July 18. “I did pretty good at the first one but definitely did better at the second one. That’s what showed them what I was all about and that I could hit to all fields with power and not just pull the ball like a typical big kid.”
