Governor's Academy at Belmont Hill 4.14.18

By Dean Bonneau
New England Scout

Shane Smith RHP / Governors Academy, MA / 2018

Strong RHP with mid to upper 80s fastball velocity, touching 90 mph a couple of times.  Looks like he mixes in both a two-seam and four-seam fastball, with the two seamer a touch slower than the four seam.  Velocity dropped as the game went on, starting between 87-90 mph and finishing 84-85 mph by the fifth inning.  Very sound mechanically, and loads well on his backside/post leg.  Has good direction in his wind up, finishes towards the plate, with very little wasted momentum.  Curveball has good depth, sharp break, sitting at about 74-75 mph.  Changeup sits between 77-81 mph.  Does not throw changeup consistently for strikes, but has good downward movement and sits about 10 mph below his fastball.
