New England Top Ten Breakdown: Top Viewed Prospect Profiles - #4 Shane Smith

Shane Smith#4 Shane Smith, RHP, Governors Academy, 2018 (Wake Forest commit)
Scouting Report: Big and physical right-handed pitcher who we have seen a bunch as he went to the Future Games with us last year. The delivery is clean and the arm swing is long on the backside. Has a ton of leverage and downhill to his fastball, it touched 87 mph. The breaking ball has improved, the shape is better this year, it sat at 72 mph. There could be a jump in the breaking ball velocity with more fastball hand speed. The changeup needs a spin fix, as its cutting, sat at 78 mph. Slight closure to the body at foot strike is causing extension issues but very cleanable. Big time arm, love the projection and the arm speed.

Overview: In 2016, the 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher comes in at the 5th spot in the 2018 class and 67th overall for PBR. Smith was a key part to Team Massachusetts during the 2015 Future Games. Look for Smith to continue his development over his next two years in high school before taking the next step.
