Posnik bouncing back from setback

Justin Posnik RHP / SS / Xaverian Brothers, MA / 2019

WELLESLEY, Ma. - The biggest summer of recruitment did not go as planned for Justin Posnik. An injury in mid-May put the Xaverian Brothers High School senior on the sidelines for two months.

“I fell down the stairs and broke both wrists,” explained Posnik. “I had two surgeries done and had a metal plate put in the right side.”

Bryant and Fairfield had shown the most interest in the right-handed pitcher up until that point.

“The timing could not have been worse,” Posnik said. “I couldn’t play at all in the summer but I still went to our games. I love to learn and gain knowledge on whatever subject there is, especially with baseball and especially pitching.”

So Posnik did his best to make improvement in his game even while unable to pitch.

“When we had games I’d sit with coach (Brandon) Anderson,” the 82nd-rated 2019 in New England reflected. “We’d talk and we’d analyze the pitchers, and we had some good ones. We’d go over the mechanics and the mental game from head to toe. I feel that was a huge benefit to my mental game. When I’m on the mound it can give me an edge. I’m out there with a sense of know-how with what pitch to use effectively at the right time.”

But the opportunity to try out the newfound knowledge was slow in coming.
