Season Outlook
The Cape Henlopen Vikings had a strong campaign in the 2015 season. With four starters returning most of their innings on the mound, the Viking arms should lead the way as they are looking to get back to the State Finals with a shot at redemption. They will be missing four-year starter, captain, and conference player of the year in Kai Vitella. Now it is Zach Gelof’s turn to take a bigger role as the University of Virginia commit will hold down a spot in the starting rotation and at short stop.

The Vikings will have deep pitching staff this year led by star sophomores Gelof and Austin Elliott. Quinn Donohoe will also add to the rotation making for one of the tougher pitching staffs in Delaware. Coach Evick has high expectations from his staff and is hoping to build on their state tournament experience from last year. Richard Carey will be doing most of the catching behind the dish, and will give the team stability behind the dish.

On the offensive side of the ball Coach Evick believes the Vikings will need players to step up to produce runs. The pitching staff will look to keep them in games, but the offensive will still need to provide run support. With five returning starters, expect a few new faces to make names for themselves in the lineup to provide that support. Overall, the Vikings may find themselves in some close ball games through the year, as they embark on another deep state tournament run.
