The Chopticon Braves and Huntingtown Hurricanes met Friday night at Regency Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in SMAC action. The two teams produced a very well played game with Chopticon out dueling Huntingtown 4-1.
Uncommitted Scott Cameron, Chopticon's lefty senior starting pitcher, walked Cy Harwood to lead off the game and then helped himself out by picking him off. After the lead off walk, Cameron would not allow a Hurricane runner to advance to second base until the fourth inning.
Chopticon jumped out to the early lead by plating two runs in the first off of Ethan Poore, the Huntingtown starter. The first three hitters for Chopticon (Sean Carr, Gavin Tippett, Cameron) singled, walked and walked. Poore then coerced back-to-back fielder's choices and a ground out to limit the damage to two runs.
Chopticon added two more runs in the third when Tippett reached on an error, Cameron doubled and Travis Wedding walked to load the bases with two outs for Jordan Faunce. His 2-RBI double made it 4-0 Braves. Poore once again limited the damage by getting a ground out to end the inning.
Huntingtown would eventually get to Cameron in the sixth putting one run on the board. Colin Wargo singled and Ryan Terrents doubled down the left field line, where the corner in Regency Stadium is hard to play as the ball caromed off the wall. The left fielder misplayed it allowing the run to score from first.
Huntingtown mounted one last rally in the seventh, getting runners to second and third with one out but Cameron would finish his complete game by striking out the side.
Cameron finished with a line of: 7IP, 1 R, 6 K, 4 BB, earning the victory.
On the other side Poore finished with: 6IP, 4R, 2ER, 3K.
Chopticon improves to 7-3 on the season, while Huntintown drops to 7-6
