Nate Proctor threw a complete game for the Clarksburg Coyotes and used a two-run fourth inning to hold onto a 2-1 victory over the Thomas Wootton Patriots in the 4A West Section II championship on Tuesday afternoon.

Wootton was the first team to strike in this game with one run in the fourth inning. Miller Romm led the inning off with a single to left field and was immediately sacrificed over by Andrew Misovec to move to second base. Harrison Cance would then walk to put runners at first and second in the inning. The next at-bat Wootton performed a successful double steal on a wild pitch to get both runners into scoring position. With the infield having to move in, Clarksburg elected to intentionally walk the hitter at the plate to load the bases and more importantly, move the infield back to double play depth instead of in. Connor Walsh would then hit a sacrifice fly to left field that would score Romm and make the score 1-0.

Clarksburg would not waste any time in responding. Tae Robinson would lead the inning off with a double down the third base line to immediately move into scoring position. Sam Batis would draw a walk to get runners to 1st and 2nd with no out. A sacrifice bunt from Peter Phillips would put both runners in scoring position.  Bailey Arensmeyer would then hit into a fielders choice on a great diving play from Wootton second baseman Misovec. Misovec attempted to get the runner out at the plate and the throw came up just short and we were tied. Mike Roenick would then hit a ground ball to second with one out to get the RBI and the Coyotes second run, which turned out to be all that Proctor would need.

Proctor crusied this game, going the complete game in 90 pitches and scattering three hits. He used a steady mix of his fastball, breaking ball, and change up, keeping the Patriot lineup at bay the entire game. He would strikeout three and walk two in the game while retiring 11 of the final 13 hitters he faced.

Proctor also went 1-for-3 at the plate with Robinson and Roenick adding the only other Clarksburg hits in the game.

Cance pitched well for Wootton in the loss going 4.1 innings, giving up two hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in the game. Dev Zoks came in relief and gave up one hit over the final 1.2 innings for Wootton.

Cance, Romm, and Nate Bowman had the hits for Wootton.

With the win, Clarksburg will await the winner of the Walt Whitman v Bethesda-Chevy Chase game on Wednesday to play for the 4A West region championship on Friday.
