Now that we are getting closer to the second Wednesday of November and the early signing period for the class of 2016, PBR Maryland will begin breaking down player commitments across the state.

With this edition of the 2016 class we turn to Michael Richardson, the No. 6 player in the PBR Maryland State Rankings. The middle infielder played a key role in getting a young Cambridge South Dorchester team to the regional final in 1A last year, losing to Colonel Richardson. Richardson came onto the PBR radar after his performance at the Maryland Preseason ID in February. After another strong outing at the Top Prospect Games Richardson ended up making his decision to play his college ball for Coach Justin Haire at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC.

Scouting Report

Athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Has a short path to the ball with fast bat speed and some extension through contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter. Good balance in swing. Has room to add more strength and bulk to his frame. Loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Throws had carry on them at 79 mph. Soft hands with active and fluid footwork. Clean exchange. Ran 4.41 home to first and had an exit velocity of 85 mph. Runs a 6.88 60-yard dash.

Outlook

There is a lot to like about Richardson with his frame and skill set. Athletic enough to play the middle with arm strength and should only get stronger as he continues to mature. Very young in terms of physical maturity. Has good first step and gets rid of the ball. Shows potential pop offensively as well with ability to play either position in the middle or third base. Should add versatility to the Camels roster as a freshmen and looks to be a nice middle infield prospect as he develops.
