Leonardtown v Quince Orchard

Bel Air v Bowie

+ Quince Orchard has gone through their bracket relatively unscathed and have played consistently throughout the season.  They played the both Sherwood and Gaithersburg very competitively in the postseason and have outlasted both as well with a convincing 5-0 victory in the sectional finals over defending 4A champs Gaithersburg. Key Player: Jack Ropelewski…Leonardtown had a hot start to the year, then cooled off a bit at the end of the year. They have picked up their play again this playoffs culminating with their last victory over Severna Park. Key Player: Bowen Plagge…Bowie was the top team in PG county this year and that consistency played true as they have made their way through the South region to the state final. Key Player: AJ Barnes…Bel Air have pitched their way to the North region championship to the tune of three shutouts (one no-hitter) and have only given up one run. They will want the offense to kick in during the state playoffs like they had in their first two games where they scored a combined 22 runs. Key Player: Jack Jenkins

Chesapeake v Damascus

Aberdeen v Huntingtown

+ North champ Aberdeen had one of the bigger upsets in the tournament after they defeated favorite North Harford in the sectional championship, then won the region in convincing fashion over Lansdowne. Key Player: Sam Smith …Chesapeake has a complete team top to bottom this year and was at the top of the ranks throughout in Anne Arundel county. Key Player: Joe Seidler…Damascus had a big win over favorite Westminster in the sectional final and cruised to a 13-4 victory, and played a tough, close 2-1 victory over Linganore to get the region championship. They hope to keep this run alive. Key Player: Eric Lansinger…Huntingtown was one of the more consistent teams in the SMAC and are one of three SMAC team in the state championships (Leonardtown, La Plata). Key Player: Brandyn Vogtsberger

Queen Anne’s v Williamsport

Eastern Tech v La Plata

+ South champ La Plata had a strong regular season with only two blemishes, one of which was an exciting extra-inning, extra-day affair against McDonough. They have rolled to a 20-2 record thus far with their eyes set on getting to Ripken. Key Player: Tyler Stockwell…Queen Anne’s has made it through the east region after an exciting, 10-inning victory over Easton. Key Player: Camden Lancaster…Williamsport won the west region after late-game heroics over Marriotts Ridge in the Region final. Key Player: Bryce Ruppenthal…Eastern Tech once again finds themselves in the state championships after losing to Southern in the state final last year. They hope this year they can take the top spot after coming so close a year ago. Key Player: Ian Tokofsky.

1A

St. Michaels v Brunswick

Patterson Mill v Pikesville

+East region champ St. Michaels have played at a high level through the region bracket. They have a challenging lineup top to bottom with both the ability to play small ball and knock it the runs. Key Player: Devin Stanford…Brunswick also find themselves back to the state championships and are the only defending champ still alive. Their talented roster has the experience to make a run again.  Key Player: Andrew Wanger…Pikesville has rolled through the south region, outscoring their opponents by an impressive 75-2 margin. They will see their biggest challenge yet as they go against Patterson Mill from the North. Key Player: Miller Friedman…Patterson Mill again have made it to the state championships, this year as a 1A team after making it to the 2A semi-final a year ago. They have had one of the tougher roads to go through and should be battle tested heading into the state playoffs. Key Player: Kyle Goudy

MIAA

Archbishop Spalding v Gilman

Spalding is the undefeated team in the MIAA championship game and Gilman has an uphill battle ahead of them having to win two games to win the championship.  Gilman have shown resiliency throughout the season and are playing at a high level at the right time, can they continue their run and force a game two? Key Player: Maxwell Costes...Spalding has been one of the top teams in Maryland throughout the year, holding on to the No. 1 spot in the Maryland Power Rankings for the most time in our first year of the rankings. They hope to make it three MIAA championships in a row for their talented senior class. Key Player: Tyler Blohm.
