Scouting Report

8.16.17 - Lapp-Barger began the move to the mound last fall and has continuted to increase his stock since. The transition took some time as he became more comfortable, but you saw the naturalness in the switch that you don't always get when you see a position player make the move the mound. He kept a fluid, natural delivery that synced well with his loose arm action. Lapp-Barger climbed up to 87 this spring and has been even better this summer, culminating with a commitment to West Virginia. Lapp-Barger moved up 10 spots to No. 21.

2.12.17 - Lapp-Berger has an athletic, projectable 6-foot, 175-pound frame. Controlled compact delivery that creates momentum throughout. Clean, sound arm action with fast arm speed throwing out of a three-quarter release point. Shows lower half involvement with slight cross body at foot strike and an athletic square finish. Still has more in tank once lower half gets more consistent. His fastball is 84-86 with some heaviness and run. His slider is tight with late movement and depth at 73-76 mph. Still getting feel for a change up at 78-79 mph. Has some fade to the pitch. Very intriguing pitching prospect that is new to the position. Athleticism should help make the adjustment a quicker one.

8.4.16 -  is a projectable outfielder with more in the tank. Loose arm action throwing from the outfield. Hits from an athletic set up from the right side. Has a short swing path and some bat speed. Nice rhythm throughout. 86 mph exit velocity from right side. Short swing from the left with average bat speed. Exit velocity of 80 from the left side.  Has a loose arm action from the outfield with accurate throws that have some carry on them at 84 mph.

6.21.16 - Lanky athletic frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds. An interesting switch-hitting prospect with projection in the 2018 class. Hits from a slightly open setup. Higher leg kick going into hitting position. Short path to the ball and shows some bat speed. More strength from right side, quicker hands from left. Active feet defensively from outfield. Works thru the ball well. Has a long loose arm action and throws have carry on them.

2.21.15 - Projectable athletic frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. From the right side, he hits from athletic setup, slightly open. Short load with knee-turn to hitting position. Level swing path with some bat speed. Strength to pull side. From the left, hits from similar athletic setup slightly open. Short load with knee turn to hitting position. Slightly longer swing with average bat speed. Gets barrel on the ball well. Quick wrists at plate and more of a middle approach at the plate. Looked stronger from right side and right handed exit velo was 85 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange with good hands and loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot.  Throws have strong carry on them at 85 mph. Moves well in the outfield and has ability to play corner infield position as well. Plays game fast with quick actions. Very interesting prospect in the 2018 class and one to keep an eye on.

2.15.15 Taeschner has a lanky frame that he could add some weight to. He throws from a three-quarters slot and has a very early hand break, which contributes to a short, stiff backside arm action. His arm stroke is quick with regular effort. His mechanics are a bit choppy and his shoulders and hips are open at footstrike. Taeschner’s fastball had heavy sinking action to it and ran 75-78 mph, touching 79 mph. He commanded it well down in the zone. He threw a curveball with gradual 11/5 break that ran 56-60 mph. Taeschner also flashed a fading change-up with near fastball arm speed that ran 64-67 mph.  Positionally, Taeschner hits from the left side and has an athletic stance. He loads back and has good balance throughout his swing and average bat speed, with an exit velocity of 77 mph off of the tee. He has a short bat path to the ball and has an opposite field, line drive approach. He is quick out of the box, running a 4.37 from home to first. Defensively, Taeschner throws from a high three-quarters arm slot and has a short arm action. He has average hands and is athletic around the bag.
