The Maryland Insider covers a wide variety of information on players in the state. We will cover events, players to watch, rankings, best in class, and many more topics that will cover the many levels of high school baseball.

PBR Maryland reached out to every high school coach in the state to find out about seniors that have fallen through the cracks and remain uncommitted. We have compiled that list of players and added short comments on what their coaches had to say.  Here is part two.

Brendan Deyo, RHP, Gaithersburg
The 6-foot-4 215-pound Deyo is a physical presence on the mound.  With two pitchers in their rotation already committed to Division I programs (2016's Anthony Felitti and Nick Pantos),  this young arm fell through the cracks.  Deyo is being recruited by multiple Division III programs in the region and is still looking for a place to call home.

Hunter Martin, INF/OF, North Hagerstown
Coach Crawford: “Hunter is a utility type player with good versatility and has improved immensely in his physical attributes as well as his aggression. Definitely projects as a second or third baseman at the next level due to arm strength limitations, but has good pop and uses the whole field.” Martin is currently speaking with some Division III programs but has yet to make a decision.

Brooks Ryan, OF, Winters Mill
Brooks was a first-team all-conference member in 2014 for Winters Mill and the team MVP. He hit .540 with nine extra-base hits and 23 RBIs. Coach Jason Green described Ryan as a “great kid” and says he “plays the game hard in every aspect.”

Justin Snell, OF, La Plata
Snell has been a four-year letterman for La Plata and Coach John Childers describes Snell as a player with “a great arm and great bat speed.”

Simeon Spruill, OF, La Plata
Spruill is a fast outfield who led the La Plata team in batting average last season. Spruill is still looking for a school to continue his college career.

Sam Stewart, C, Paint Branch
Stewart has put together quite a career at Paint Branch, hitting at a .395 clip (64-for-162) in his three seasons on the varsity team. Stewart was the 4A South player of the year. Coach Thomas Rey on Stewart: “Sam is one of the top catchers in the area. He is a very talented player and has the drive to get even better. He has a plus arm and plus defensive skills behind the plate. He plays third base and shortstop for us as well. He threw out 21 of the 32 runners that tried to steal against him over the past two years.”

Steven Vanderzwet, P, Paint Branch
Vanderzwet has struck out 46 hitters and given up 48 hits in 59 Innings on the mound for Paint Branch. He was a second-team all-state member his sophomore and junior years.

Andrew Zerbe, RHP/OF New Life Christian School
Zerbe led New Life with a .440 batting average and also made 10 appearances on the mound with a 3.15 ERA. Coach Travis McCrory on Zerbe: “He’s a great young man, hard worker, and country strong.”
