Season Snapshot
Sixth year head coach Anthony Sosnoskie and Bishop McNamara really turned heads last season finishing 22-7 overall and second place in the WCAC regular season standings. The Mustangs will look to build upon that success this year returning six starters, four big arms, and a talented crop of underclassmen ready to make their impacts felt.
On the mound, 2019 First Team All WCAC selection Donavan Frayer (Shorter) and fellow seniors Jon Rodenhaver (Fairleigh Dickinson) and Noah Wiggins (Norfolk State) return as anchors on a staff that sees just one key loss from a season ago. Joe Quelch garnered First Team All WCAC accolades last year tossing 45 innings with a 1.09 ERA. With him off playing at Patrick Henry CC this spring look for junior righty Ryan Davis, sophomore Bryce Thompson, and talented freshman left-handed pitcher Cameron Johnson to add depth and fill the void.
The Mustangs look to be led offensively this year by 2019 All WCAC First Team catcher Ryan Shieh (Liberty). Shieh hit .354 with eight extra base hits and drove in 30 runs at the plate while also throwing out 35% of all base-runners from behind the dish. Joining Shieh as returning starters and impact players in the lineup this are seniors Brandon Baker, Jared Mammano, and the aforementioned Frayer. Look for juniors Miles Peterson, Josh Wilson, Khalil Greene, Jaden Ritzes, and sophomore transfer from La Plata, Cam Jones Jr. to also play key roles. This year's lineup on paper looks really balanced and figures to be able to score a ton of runs in a variety of ways with a nice combination of speed and power. Look for McNamara to be one of the top teams again in the WCAC alsongside St. John's, DeMatha, and Bishop O'Connell just to name a few.
