Arundel HS senior Chris Ford committed to Norfolk State University in 2014.  He was kind enough to take time out for PBR Maryland and let us all get to know him better.

Why did you choose NSU?

--I chose Norfolk State University for many reasons. The school is well known for my major sociology/criminal justice. I was impressed with the school and it is academically sound. This school was also a Division I school which has been a goal of mine since I stepped on a baseball field.

Chris FordWhat other schools were you considering?

--Appalachian State, Lafayette College, Towson University, Coppin State, Neumann University, Salisbury University, Hood College, Lincoln University, Marymount University, McDaniel College, Cairn University, Chestnut Hill College, Gettysburg College, Barry University, Millersville University

Now that your commitment is over, what are your goals for your senior year?

--To win a State Championship and get straight A's all four semesters. Individually I would like to be 1st Team All-County and All-State batting over .450 and no stolen bases allowed.

What would you like to get accomplished before you step on campus at NSU?

--I want to win a State Title. I want to win a second National Championship and earn MVP for the summer season in the collegiate league.

What are you looking forward to the most about Norfolk State?

--I am looking forward to being on my own, advancing academically and playing baseball with a new group of guys who also have the same goals I do.

Who did you play for over the summer and what was your most memorable experience?

--Victus Diamond Pros 17u. My most memorable experience was hitting a home run first game of the season and throwing four people out.

Who has been the most influential person over your baseball career and why?

--My mom Wendy Morano and three baseball coaches Mike Trott, James Hudlow, and Gus Kaplanges. I was told to never give up, never quit and you will always succeed. They all have had a big effect and have helped me to get where I am.

Who is your favorite MLB player and why?

--Clayton Kershaw because he is genuinely a good guy. He is a very good pitcher that hits his spot. He is also a Christian baseball player and never quits.

What are you going to bring to NSU as a freshman?

--I will bring a great work ethic, a positive attitude and will always work to make myself a better teammate and player.

What is your goal by the end of your freshman year?  By the end of your college career?

--At the end of freshman year I want to be a recognized baseball player. I want to be the player the coaches come to in a clutch situation. I want to earn a starting position and be the best player I can be. By the end of my college career I want to get drafted and be ready to play at the next level. In addition I want to be prepared to be successful for my future career in law enforcement.
