The Buzz: Maye, McGee To Enroll Early

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

The 2017 class is strong in North Carolina, but it’s now down two prospects with the departure of LHP Cole Maye (Hough HS, NC) and IF Ashton McGee (Aycock HS, NC). Committed to Florida and North Carolina respectively, both have opted to graduate high school and enroll early to start their college careers in the spring.

McGee is a polished left-handed hitter with the versatility to play multiple infield positions. He has a strong frame at 6 feet, 215 pounds and runs a 6.97-second 60. He was ranked No. 11 in the state and No. 131 in the Overall Rankings.

Maye stands at 6-foot-6, 180 pounds and typically sits 84-88 mph, but has been up to 91 in the past. He was ranked No. 20 in North Carolina and 212 overall.
