MD Top Prospect Games 6/20/17

Gilbert is a raw middle infield prospect who hits from the right side of the plate. He has a balance and slightly open setup. He utilizes a toe tap as a timing mechanism but never fully coils into his back side. He remains upright throughout the swing as his hips rotate quickly without any weight transfer. His barrels works level and quick through the zone and he generates some extension when staying through the ball. He displayed a line drive approach with potential to occasionally drive a gap. Exit velo of 78mph. In the infield, he has decent footwork and average actions. His hands work but could be more efficient. He does a good job of securing the ball and made accurate throws when staying under control. Infield velo of 77mph.

6.1.16 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, square set up. Higher leg kick involved in load to hitting position. Short bat path to the ball with a middle approach. Nice extension through contact. Shows balance throughout the swing. Exit velo of 83 mph.  Active feet from the middle. Compact arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Works thru the ball and throws across the diamond at 71 mph.

6.24.15 - Athletic frame with more to go at 5-foot-9 145-pounds.  Has a loose arm throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Had fluid foot work and a clean exchange that was a little long. Infield velocity was at 64 mph.  Hits from a slightly closed set up. Short and quick swing with slight barrel drag. Nice foundation in swing.  Exit velocity was 69 mph and ran a 7.87 60 yard dash. Frame to build upon, will be interesting to see how he fills out and gets stronger.
