2026 South Atlantic Border Battle: Scout Blog

Prep Baseball's scouting staff was on hand throughout the 2026 South Atlantic Border Battle, getting an extended look at players from across the region during two days of workouts and game action.

The event provided another opportunity to evaluate players in a competitive setting, with position players going through offensive and defensive work as well as participating in two controlled scrimmages. Pitchers worked to live hitters in the scrimmage situations.

Below is a quick look at players from the Prep Baseball scouting staff during the event. These notes are designed to provide a snapshot of what was seen over the two-day look and are not intended to serve as comprehensive scouting reports.

Tigers — Mid-Atlantic 2027

Position Players

Jimmy Amplo, OF, The Shipley School (PA), 2027
Uncommitted. Physical left-handed hitter with strength in the hands. Worked with a mostly flat path through the zone during his offensive looks with strength showing through contact.

Anthony Badillo, SS, Archbishop Spalding (MD), 2027
Virginia Tech. Athletic mover with twitch and rhythm to his game. Defensively, Badillo showed active feet, range and confidence in his hands, with the athleticism to make plays on the move and throw from multiple platforms. At the plate, he displayed quality zone awareness and a willingness to work deep into counts. He was on time throughout his looks, producing two barrels in three at-bats while showing the ability to use the entire field.

Logan Hearity, MIF, Hazelton Area (PA), 2027
Seton Hall. Strength shows in the right-handed swing with an aggressive approach geared toward driving the baseball to the pull side. The hands provide strength through contact.

Anderson Lambert, C, McDonogh School (MD), 2027
Alabama. Athletic and twitchy with quick hands and noticeable freedom of movement. Lambert worked with a flat path through the zone and showed a patient approach in games, extending at-bats and fouling off quality pitches while controlling the strike zone.

Nick Machusko, 3B, Moon Area (PA), 2027
Virginia. Physical right-handed hitter with strength and bat speed. There is natural loft in the swing with the ability to drive the baseball to the pull side. Machusko put together quality at-bats in game action, recognizing spin and consistently working to get his best swing off. Defensively, he showed solid hands and the athleticism to handle a corner position.

Wyatt Parker, SS, Mechanicsville (VA), 2027
William & Mary. Long, lean athlete with plenty of projection remaining. Parker showed barrel feel and solid hand-eye coordination from the left side while also flashing intriguing ability on the mound. The arm worked cleanly, and his slider showed flashes of tight, late action.

Emmett Robinson, CF, Delaware Military Academy (DE), 2027
Liberty. Strong, compact left-handed hitter who made a noticeable adjustment during the event. Robinson showed a loose swing with a heavy barrel through contact, producing his best offensive looks on the second day.

Zayne Rosnick, 1B/LHP, Central Catholic (OH), 2027
Uncommitted. Physical left-handed hitter who showed strength to the pull side. Rosnick was on time early in counts and displayed solid hand-eye coordination, including staying on a changeup and driving it down the line for extra bases.

Judah Shirlen, SS, Archbishop Spalding (MD), 2027
Vanderbilt. Fundamentally sound middle infielder with a lean frame that should continue to add strength. Shirlen showed an advanced understanding of positioning and consistently put himself in good spots defensively.

Troy Stimpson, C, Canon McMillan (PA), 2027
Pittsburgh. Strong-handed right-handed hitter with looseness in the swing. Worked from a vertical setup and showed physicality through the barrel during the workout portion of the event.

Brady Youngblood, C, Dallas High School (PA), 2027
Notre Dame. Catch-and-throw ability stood out behind the plate. Youngblood showed good hip mobility, explosive feet through the exchange and excellent carry and accuracy on his throws. He produced workout pop times of 2.00, 2.03 and 2.04, consistently putting throws on the bag. Offensively, strong hands and solid bat speed provide additional upside.

Franklin Zerpa, C, DeMatha Catholic (MD), 2027
Central Michigan. Physical catcher with good bend behind the plate and solid receiving ability. Zerpa's arm produced easy carry with accuracy throughout the weekend. Offensively, he showed bat speed, balance and rhythm with quick hands that allowed him to handle velocity on the inner half.

Pitchers

Dom Mangini, RHP, Cape Henlopen (DE), 2027
St. Joseph's. Large, physical right-hander with broad shoulders and an up-tempo delivery. Mangini worked 87-88 mph with the fastball and consistently attacked the strike zone. He mixed a breaking ball in the low-70s and a changeup at 76-79 mph.

Elijah Martin, RHP, Wesleyan Christian (NC), 2027
College of Charleston. Imposing 6-foot-8, 240-pound right-hander with a long, clean arm action. Martin worked primarily at 87-89 mph and reached 90, mixing a 77-80 mph slider and an 82-84 mph changeup. There is plenty of physicality present with multiple pitches to work from.

Evan Pate, RHP, Princeton (NC), 2027
Coastal Carolina. Lean, youthful right-hander with length in the frame. Pate worked up to 89 mph while sitting primarily 84-87, showing an inline delivery and the ability to work around the strike zone. He mixed a 74-78 mph breaking ball.

Jon Saunders, RHP, Gateway Senior High School (PA), 2027
Penn State. Athletic right-hander with an up-tempo delivery and a good motor on the mound. Saunders worked 85-89 mph and reached 90, showing the ability to move the fastball in and out while attacking multiple areas of the strike zone. He mixed both a breaking ball and slider, with the slider showing abrupt horizontal action and length.
