Barrett Seeks Smooth Ending To Recruitment

Joey Barrett SS / 2B / Bridgton Academy, ME / 2019

NORTH BRIDGTON - A “rocky ride” on the recruiting trail has Joey Barrett extending his high school days at Bridgton Academy while searching for the right college.

“I’m doing post-grad work getting credits for college and also trying to get more college looks,” noted Barrett, who graduated from Bedford this past school year.

The 33rd-rated 2019 in New England went on a visit to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst two weeks ago and liked what he saw.

“It’s a bigger school which I like better than a smaller one,” Barrett said of UMass, a member of the Atlantic 10 in baseball. “They’re making a new dome over the football field so you can train there in the winter for baseball.”

Boston College, Stoney Brook and Southern New Hampshire were schools along with UMass that showed an interest in Barrett as a sophomore before recruitment slowed down.

“There have been a lot of ups and downs,” 5-10 170-pounder admitted. “My sophomore year there were a lot of ups, I was talking with a lot of D-I schools. But I didn’t have as good of grades and they decided to go after some others.”
