Inside the Recruitment: '19 RHP/1B Chris Mokma commits to Michigan State

Chris Mokma, RHP/1B, Holland Christian

PBR: Why did you choose Michigan State?
Chris: The whole coaching staff made me feel at home and were very welcoming when I was there. I loved what they had to offer at Michigan State, both from the academic and athletic standpoint. Being a part of Michigan State is something special, and it’s an honor to be apart of it.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Chris: I visited Michigan and gave them a lot of thought. I just felt Michigan State was the right choice for me.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Chris: The coaching staff at Michigan State first saw me at the MSU Camp over a year ago.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?
Chris: I play for Midwest Athletics in the summer. My most memorable moment was just being with all those guys and having a really fun time at all the tournaments we played in.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it important for you to complete the process early?
Chris: I knew what the recruiting process was like because I went through it with my brother. I knew that it was going to be stressful at times, but I enjoyed it. I felt like making it a fun experience made it easier to go through. It wasn’t important completing the process early because I just wanted to make the right decision. Finishing the process early allows me to focus more on getting better and having fun playing the game I love.

PBR: You had a great role model in your older brother Mike, what role did he play in your development?
Chris: He was always someone that would push me to be the best I could be. He would always take me along to throw with him and train with him which allowed me to get better and better. I think having him being a D1 athlete made me push myself even more to be one as well.

PBR: You won a state title as a freshman what are your remaining goals for High school?
Chris: Winning a state title as a freshman was really special. My goals throughout the rest of high school is to get back to the State Tournament and get another opportunity to play at McLane Stadium for the State Championship.
