Q and A with Central Michigan Commit: Matt Constance

Matt Constance, RHP, Brother Rice HS

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Constance: Central Michigan University because I really liked the pitching coach they have there and he has seemed to be very successful at getting guys where they need to be at to get drafted to the next level.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Constance: Michigan State and Michigan were other schools I was interested in.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Constance: No, I'd be down south in a heart beat if possible playing baseball.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?
Constance: How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff? I believe the coaches first saw me at a local tournament and then saw me in Georgia at a WWBA tournament. We started talking on the phone every now and then, then I visited on an official and decided to commit.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Constance: They want me to be ready for the bump as soon as I get there and I couldn't be more excited.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Constance: My biggest strength as a player would probably be my slider, over 2 summers of throwing it, only 2 or 3 kids have been able to connect for a hit.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Constance: In the summer I play for the Ann Arbor Travelers, and my most memorable experience was making it to the Connie Mack World Series as a 17u team and finishing in 5th place.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Constance: My goal is to have the lowest ERA that I've ever had in a season as well as working on getting stronger and boosting velocity. Our team goals for this season are to win the Catholic League and a state championship.
