Q&A with Unsigned Senior Ryan Dorow (South Haven, LC Mohr)

Ryan Dorow, MIF/3B, South Haven, 2013

Dorow is another example of a winner and a gutsy player.  A 3 year starter at short stop for his high school, Dorow has sure steady hands in the infield. His arm is above average for high school as he was 84mph across the diamond.  In addition to solid defense, Dorow can swing it.  He has good pop in his bat and an aggressive approach.  He can certainly help a program at the next level.

*Dorow will be in South Bend this weekend (Sept 29-30) playing with the Twin Cities Baseball Club.

PBR: Where are you currently in the recruiting process?
Dorow: I have been contacted by a handful of schools who have interest.  Right now I am making some campus visits and I plan on a few more college camps during the fall.  I hope to be able to make a commitment to a school soon.

PBR: What level of baseball do you see yourself playing at the next level?
Dorow: At this point that is up to the coaches.  I feel like I can play with or against the majority of players heading into college. I have played against and competed well against many players that are signing with D1 and D2 schools.  Most importantly I want to play for a school that is dedicated to winning and willing to put in the work to make that happen.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?
Dorow: The 3 fall tournaments I am playing in will narrow this list down to one of 2.  There is a school in Ohio that looks like a good fit and certainly I have 2 or 3 schools in Michigan that I am interested in. I need to talk with these coaches/admissions offices more to make sure academically they have my planned field of study.

PBR: You have been under-the-radar for the most part, why do you think that is?
Dorow: My size is likely a concern.  Along with that, I have played 3 sports for my entire high school career so I have not been able to do all the events that maybe other players have.  I think when I am able to focus on baseball in college many of those concerns about size will become far less of a concern. I had a solid Exit Velocity of 87 at the PBR event and my arm strength has been as high as 87 so I think I play a lot stronger than I look.

PBR: Have you received some interest since attending the showcase?
Dorow: There has been some interest since the PBR Showcase.   Getting a video on the website is certainly going to help as well.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Dorow: I need to get bigger, stronger and faster.  Again, playing 3 sports has limited training time and in college that will no longer be an issue.

PBR: As a player what is your greatest strength?
Dorow: I love playing defense and giving 100% to make plays.  My glove, my arm strength and my ability to make plays is a great asset in the BBCOR environment.  If you look at the number of HR’s being way down from a few years ago, defensive abilities become very important to winning programs with solid pitching staffs.

PBR: What are your high school team goals for the 2012 season?
Dororw: 2011 ended poorly, we should have been in the Regional Final and we blew it.  We lost some key guys but it is our goal, the seniors goal to get back to Regional’s and to play the way we know we are capable of playing.

PBR: What were your stats last season?
Dorow: My batting average was over .400 through High School and Summer Ball.  I produced 30 RBI’s in High School, with 16 doubles, 3 HR’s while batting in the 3 spot.  My fielding percentage was over .980 while holding down Shortstop for the entire year.

PBR: What is your GPA? ACT or SAT score?
Dorow: GPA: 3.15            ACT 19
