Player Spotlight: 2B Austin Holt (Galena, 2018)

Austin Holt (Galena, 2018) is a strong 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting shortstop and recently attended the Top Prospect Games - MOKAN in Warrensburg on August 8. 

He ran a 7.31 60 and a 4.46 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 85 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load into back side with controlled leg lift, attacks ball, quick bat speed, occasional pull side power, gap-to-gap approach, repeats.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, long arm circle, smooth feet to the ball, fields ball out front in athletic position, clean transfer, mostly accurate throws.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Holt: Academics is the most important aspect in selecting a college for me. I want to attend a four year university with a strong business program.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Holt: My junior year I received the honors of 1st Team All-District Infield, 1st Team All-Conference Outfield, All-State Academic Baseball Team, and All-State Infield Honorable Mention. I finished the season with 36 hits in 77 at bats. I hit for an average of .468, had a .636 slugging percentage, and an OPS of 1.142. I had 11 doubles, 24 RBIs, and scored 21 runs. As a team we finished the season 18-6. We beat a team in every class in the state of Missouri. We beat New Covenant to win our second straight district championship. We beat McCauley Catholic in 10 innings to win sectionals. We lost in the state quarterfinals to Mansfield. Mansfield went on to win the state championship.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Holt: My senior season I plan to become an established leader. I also plan to set an example for underclassmen so that our program continues to be successful in the future. A team goal is to win our third straight district championship.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Holt: I play for 417 Baseball in the Summer and Fall.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Holt: I play basketball and run cross country.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Holt: My weighted GPA is a 4.18 and my unweighted GPA is a 3.86. I have an ACT score of 27.
