Player Spotlight: Collin Breckner (Fair Grove, 2017)

Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Collin Breckner (Fair Grove, 2017) is a 6-foot-2 160-pound left-handed pitcher and left-handed hitting outfielder.

At the Class of 2017 Games in June, Breckner was 82-78 mph with his fastball. Breckner has a three-quarters release, raising his hands with knee during his delivery.  He repeats his release point, throwing a high number of strikes and creating ground ball contact. He has a slurve-type breaking ball at 64-67 mph with late action, change-up was 65-70 mph, down in the zone.

At the plate, Breckner posted a 91 mph exit velo, one of the top left handed hitter exit velos of the event, and he ran a 6.87 60, also one of the top times for the event.  He starts in a thin and open sent up at the plate and his swing creates line drives to middle and pull side of the field.

Breckner is playing for the Hillcrest Merchants this summer and looking to go on visits this fall.  Here is a look inside the recruitment of Collin Breckner.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Breckner: I have not taken any visits as of now due to a busy baseball summer. I have plans on doing a lot of visits this fall.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Breckner: I have not chosen a major yet. I am looking for a school that cares about academic and has a good baseball program.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Breckner: My junior year went well. I had many extra base hits including a home run. On the mound I averaged well over a strikeout per inning. Our team fell a little short of our expectations, but we learned many lessons from it.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Breckner: My goals are to hit for power with a good average. On the mound I want to have several wins with a low ERA and have several strikeouts.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Breckner: This summer I am playing for the Hillcrest Merchants. We just took 3rd in the SABA holiday tournament and I was elected to the All-Tournament Team. I currently do not know about a fall ball team yet.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Breckner: When I was younger I played football, basketball, and baseball. In high school I have just played basketball and baseball.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Breckner: My current GPA is 3.4. I have scored a 20 on the ACT, but I plan to take it again.
