Profile Spotlight: Dalton Horstmeier from Fulton HS and Participant in the Midwest Future Games



6-foot-2, 175-pound Dalton Horstmeier is a two year starter for Fulton HS, and if he keeps his current pace, could finish his career as one of the best players to ever come out of Fulton HS. Last season, he hit an eye opening .531 (second best average in the central part of Missouri) and swiped ten bases. 

Horstmeier first caught our eye in November at the Fall Invitational Showcase, and solidified a roster spot for the Future Games team with a standout performance at the All State Invitational showcase in June with impressive play in the outfield and 6.72 60. 

Off the field, Horstmeier is currently ranked No. 9 in his class at Fulton HS with a GPA of 4.28.

We caught up with Horstmeier to get his thoughts on the Future Games and his future:

Talk a little about your experience at the Midwest Futures Games:
 
Horstmeier: I thought it was a great chance to see where I stand against the best in the midwest. It reminded me to take nothing for granted and continue to work hard. I really enjoyed interacting with my teammates and coaches.

What do you expect going into your junior year? 
Horstmeier: I want to contiue to improve as a player. Although my stats were very good my sophomore year my goal is to improve in all areas and have a great season.

What is your biggest strength as a player?
Horstmeier: My love for the game, the understanding of it and my ability to play many positions.

What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Horstmeier: I can be pretty hard on myself at times and need to ease up a bit.  I tend to let it get to me and I am working on keeping my head up!

What are your expectations for the recruiting process?
Horstmeier: I hope my hard work and dedication to the game of baseball pays off and that I am recruited by a Division 1 program.  I want to be surrounded by teammates and coaches that want to win and love the game.

What type of program would you like to play at?  What is the most important to you. caliber of program, coaching staff or academics?
Horstmeier: All aspects are important to me, a good program, great coaches and a strong academic program.  I can't say one outweighs the other.

What schools are you most interested in right now and why? 
Horstmeier: With entering my junior year in high school I have not made any decisions at this time.


What were your personal goals for 2012 season and were they met? Goals for 2013?
Horstmeier: In 2012 I wanted to improve my batting average and have no strikeouts, with less errors in the field.  Yes, I achieved all of those.  Batting average was .531 with no strikeouts, with 7 errors on the season.  I hope that my junior year can be as positive and I have set several goals, to improve upon my batting average, with no strike outs and drop my errors to 5 or less.

What team do you play for during the summer?
Horstmeier: The Midwest Outlaws- Doug Lohman

Who is the toughest hitter/pitcher you have faced? 
Horstmeier: While in a tournament this past summer in Las Vegas facing a sophomore pitcher from UNLV. 

What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2012 baseball season (high school or summer)?
Horstmeier: Making the USSSA 1st team All American International Team. 

What is your most memorable moment in baseball so far in your life?
Horstmeier: Making the USSSA 1st team All American International Team


What are your thoughts on the implementation of the BBCOR bats from both a hitting a pitching perspective?
 
Horstmeier: I think the new bats prepare hitters for the long run with having the smaller sweet spot.  It encourages pitchers to pitch to contact.  I think it will be beneficial to both hitters and pitchers.
