US Nationals & Affiliates (Kansas City) Scout Day: Quick Hits

This winter, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff ran a three part scout day with the US Nationals & Affiliates travel program. The first leg took place in Ozark, MO, on January 21st, while the final two were on February 24th in Kansas City and St. Louis, respectively. More than 100 players from the US Nationals & Affiliate organizations participated in their respective events, gathering unrivaled measurables through our tech partners.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer.

Now, we'll turn our attention to this past weekend's US Nationals & Affiliates event in Kansas City, and after combing through our scout notes from the event, we’re rolling out your typical ‘Quick Hits’ today. Below you’ll learn more about a handful of names-to-know from this year’s US Nationals & Affiliates Scout Day. 

QUICK HITS 

+ RHP Coby Branson (Santa Fe Trail, 2026) was one of the biggest winners on the mound from Saturday’s event. At this event last year, Branson’s fastball played at 81-83 mph, but the 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty sat 86-88 mph on Saturday, touching 90.2 mph on his firmest fastball. He paired that with a sweeping slider at 77-80 mph and a changeup at 81-82 mph, both also up in velocity from the previous year.

+ LHP Wesley Brown (Holden, 2026) is a strong 5-foot-10, 180-pound arm to know from Saturday’s event, showing advanced feel in commanding the zone with a five-pitch mix. Brown moves down the mound with intent, throwing his fastball at 84-86 mph. Additionally, he mixed in a vertical moving curveball at 70-71 mph, a sweeping slider at 73-75 mph, a low spin changeup at 79-80 mph, and a cutter at 83 mph.

+With plenty of upside at 6-foot-4, 175-pounds, RHP Evan Magnuson (Platte County, 2027) uses a long, lanky frame to generate a mid-80s fastball on the mound that reached 86 mph in this look. Off that, Magnuson spun a 72-74 mph slider with depth and a low spin changeup at 76-77 mph, both for strikes.

+ C Brant Colvin (Knob Noster, 2026) is a strong 6-foot-1, 185-pound sophomore worth a follow from this event. Colvin does not shy away from swinging aggressively in the box, generating power with a violent swing. The physical athlete had an explosive round of BP, barreling one of the furthest balls of the day at 324 feet with a 99.6 mph exit velocity. Behind the plate, Colvin consistently had a pop time between 1.94 and 2.02 seconds. 

+ 1B/RHP Dawson Edwards (Lee’s Summit West, 2026) is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound athlete that is as strong and as physical as they come. His strength showed on both sides of the ball on Saturday. At the plate, Edwards used an aggressive swing to produce the top exit velocity of the day at 103.7 mph. Edwards’ strength carried over to the infield where he also led the event with his infield velocity of 88 mph from first base. Additionally, he hopped on the mound and topped out at 85 mph with a changeup/slider mix to pair.

+ INF Alex Chester (Oak Park, 2025) is a 5-foot-9, 175-pound athlete with upside on both sides of the ball. Chester showed a quick swing that stayed through the zone and drove balls through the middle of the field in BP, squaring his firmest ball up at 93.8 mph. Defensively, Chester’s arm played true, reaching 85 mph on his firmest bullet across the infield. 

+ A pair of backstops to follow from this event are C Ayden Katzberg (Lee's Summit West, 2025) and C Jackson Goos (Manhattan, 2026). Katzberg is a strong-bodied 5-foot-10, 165-pound athlete that ran a 7.02 60-yard dash, was on the barrel often in BP, and showed an 80 mph arm from behind the plate with a 1.85-to-1.88 pop time. Goos led all catchers in attendance in peak throwing velocity (T81 mph) and he popped in the 1.85-to-1.90 range with a 90.7 mph max exit velocity.
