The PBR MN Prospect ID- West Fargo event took place on Sunday, August 11, 2019. The event was held at Young Field in West Fargo, ND. The event featured prospects from the 2020 through 2023 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff; along with the staff from West Fargo Legion for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR MN Prospect ID- West Fargo event.

Chase Burke, OF/C, Minot (ND), 2021
5-foot-7, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  6.95 runner.  Slightly open balanced stance with high handset.  Leg lift trigger and hand load down.  Aggressive swing and flashed bat speed.  Flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact and flash some strength in barrel.  85 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet and stays behind ball well.  Above average glove and field ball clean.  84 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  C- Athletic.  One knee stance.  Average glove and shows ability to hold pitches.  Can be slow to block.  Stays low through release with average exchange.  Longer footwork.  2.00-2.01 pop times.  79 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. 

Matt Friesen, C/SS, St. Cloud Tech, 2021
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  7.30 runner.  Shoulder width slightly open stance.  Leg lift to start and hand load back.  Flatter swing plane.  Middle approach with mainly line drive contact.  Consistent contact with average barrel.  83 mph exit velocity.  IF- Attacks ball with average feet.  Fields ball deep and makes routine play.  Good carry and accuracy with 83 mph arm strength.  C- Squared stance with light feet when receiving.  Glove has pre pitch movement and can be late to pitches.  Works low to high with average glove.  Average exchange and stands up to release.  Good footwork.  2.01-2.07 pop times with good arm action.  76 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy. 

Peyton Jantzi, C/RHP, West Fargo (ND), 2022
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.80 runner.  Slightly open athletic stance.  Leg lift and long down and back hand load.  Arm bar at times.  Barrel works in an out of zone.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact with 78 mph exit velocity.  C- Athletic squared stance.  Can be stiff side to side.  Average glove and works low to high.  Can be slow to block laterally.  Longer exchange and slower footwork on throws.  2.20-2.38 pop times.  71 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Athletic frame.  Small rocker step into slower tempo delivery.  Good balance down mound and lands slightly open.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long to short arm action.  Fastball has slight run and sink at 74-76 mph.  Slider has 11/5 break with small shape and inconsistent release thrown at 68-71 mph.  Change-up has cut action at 72-73 mph.

Samuel Lenarz, C/RHP, Benson, 2021
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.75 runner.  Open balanced stance.  Body and small hand load back.  Some stiffness through swing and can be off balance.  Average swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact with 76 mph exit velocity.  C- Strong slightly open stance.  Glove works low to high.  Average glove and tends to stab to receive.  Keeps ball in front blocking.  Average exchange and short footwork on throws.  2.09-2.28 pop times.  72 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Simple rocker step.  Gets to balance point and leg swings open down mound.  Good tempo and balance through delivery.  Some effort to release.  Throws from a ¾ to low ¾ arm slot with inconsistent release.  Fastball is straight with slight run at 75-77 mph.  Curveball has big 11/5 break with average spin at times thrown at 67-70 mph.  Slider has 10/4 break with average shape at 68-71 mph.

Dustin Mertz, C, West Fargo (ND), 2020
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  6.88 runner.  Balanced relaxed stance.  Small stride and hand load.  Aggressive swing with slightly uphill swing plane.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Good contact with strength in barrel and flashed pop.  88 mph exit velocity.  C- Athletic.  Receives from one knee and stays square.  Average glove and works high to low.  Moves well to block and keeps ball in front.  Average exchange and footwork.  Quicker release. 2.07-2.12 pop times.  74 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.

Carter Mulcahy, C, Perham, 2020
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  7.40 runner.  Balanced and slightly open stance.  Some rhythm in load.  Small leg lift and hand load back.  Good swing plane and stays through contact.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed pop in barrel.  81 mph exit velocity.  C- Athletic stance and good frame.  Average glove and will stab.  Can be slow to block laterally.  Keeps ball in front.  Quick and clean exchange with good footwork.  1.95-2.10 pop times.  75 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.
