Midwest Right-Handers

This week, In the Weeds checks out some of the more intriguing right-handed arms in the 2019 class from the midwest. Coming out of the off-season, many of the strong-armed pitchers on the list have made significant velocity jumps with others showing signs of more on the way. Players from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nebraska are included on the list of seven arms who could potentially give some school’s recruiting class a boost.

Trey Nordmann RHP / DeWitt, MI / 2019

Nordman has continue to make strides, and having filled into his long, 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame, his stuff has made a jump. The big right-hander first showed promise on the national scene at last summer’s Future Games where he pitched for Team Michigan. Coming out of the off-season, Nordman was able to run his fastball up to 90 mph while peppering the zone with strikes at PBR Michigan’s Preseason All-State event. Featuring a clean, polished delivery with a longer arm swing that sees the hand stop, slightly, in the back, Nordman has the athleticism to repeat his high ¾ slot. His breaking ball has a chance to continue developing into a swing and miss type offering and was recently at 73-74 at the same event. He also shows some feel for a fading changeup at 76-79. Overall, Nordman has the physical frame that coaches love to project, and given his growth over the offseason, there could be more on the way throughout the spring and into the summer.
