PBR COMMENTS:
6-foot-4, 200-pound switch-hitting shortstop that ran a 7.07 60 yard sprint. Athletic durable frame. At the plate, square stance. Slight toe tap triggers hands. Quick compact swing with good pop from the right side of the plate. Gets longer from the left side. Posted an exit velocity of 92 mph. In the infield, feet and hands work well, funnels through the body with an extra glove tap release. Threw across at 79 mph. Projects to move to a corner spot. Threw online with carry to the catcher at 81 mph from the outfield. On the mound, simple clean mechanics. Hands break cleanly on the back and leverage’s height to drive downhill. Fastball shows late life topping out at 83 mph. Showed feel for 69-70 mph changeup with sink. 68-71 mph breaking ball had tilt and good spin when released out front.

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
BERNEY: I chose Creighton because of the school's outstanding academics and because of the baseball program's winning tradition and commitment to the development of players.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
BERNEY: I was also considering Xavier, Nebraska, and Wichita State.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
BERNEY: The coaching staff first saw me play in Kansas City. I also went to one of their camps, got to play in front of all the coaches and they really liked how I played.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
BERNEY: It's a major relief to know where I will be going. I'm excited to just enjoy my senior year knowing I have such a great opportunity ahead of me at Creighton.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
BERNEY: The education offered at Creighton and the program's winning tradition were both major deciding factors in my decision.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
BERNEY: My dad has played the biggest part in getting me where I am today. From age 3 he has thrown BP to me, played catch with me, and hit me ground balls. Anytime I asked him to do something he was always more than willing to help. Also, Mike Waller, Tim Hoeft, Dwight Junker, Steve Russell, Mike Metz, and Bill Steckis have really helped make me a better baseball player.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
BERNEY:  I thought the recruiting process was going to be pretty stressful but my coaches helped me along the way. Creighton coaches were especially helpful making the process a lot easier.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
BERNEY: My freshman year the coaching staff plans to use me in the outfield, corner infield and some pitching.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
BERNEY:  My most memorable moment in baseball so far is getting chosen to represent the Midwest in the USA NTIS. I met a bunch of great players and got the chance to play against very good competition at the beautiful USA Complex.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
BERNEY: The best player I got to play against was probably Luke Bandy. He's going to play at Dallas Baptist.
