Super 60 Spotlight: C.J. Hood

On Sunday, Feb. 7, Prep Baseball Report will host the 19th edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 22 first-round picks and 25 second-rounders.

We started our our march toward the Super 60 earlier this week, by highlighting the prospects set to join us, shining a light on their impressive player profiles that they've groomed through their high school years and beyond.

Scouting Report

7/07/20

Athletic, long bodied, loose and projectable at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds. Hood was the top pitching prospect at the ProCase running his fastball up to 96 mph with lower effort, a sound delivery and clean arm action. Most of his heaters sat 91-94 with carry through the zone and averaged 2,560 rpm spin rate. Also flashed the ability to get downhill to his glove side. With little dispersion in release point, he also threw a high-spin slider for strikes at 79-81 mph, topping at 2,910 rpm. Although he still needs to refine his control into command and develop a third pitch (changeup), Hood showed many qualities of a high round pick, undoubtedly moving up pref lists for the 2021 draft.

6-foot-4, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player ran a 6.62 60 yard sprint. Long and lean athletic build. Square stance, short stride trigger, linear path, line drive contact to the middle of the field. Put up an event best 92 mph from the outfield, actions work, plays out front with hands. On the mound, topped out at 88 mph with his fastball from a H3/4 slot. Arm is long out front, struggled at getting ball out front on fastball. Hard slider with downward action. Firm change up with some fade action to his arm side. High follow for the 2021 class in Nebraska as rawness continues to develop.
