Kansas City JUCO Showcase Takeaways: Hitters


Central Region Scouting Staff

 

On Sep. 24 and 25, Prep Baseball Kansas City hosted the annual Juco Showcase Tournament at the state-of-the-art Homefield Baseball Complex. This event featured 36 Junior Colleges throughout the midwest with many need-to-know prospects.

Now, with the event behind us, the Central Region Scouting Staff has compiled a handful of names that impressed throughout the two days of gameplay in Kansas City. Today you'll learn more about several position players who stole the show, with 40 players highlighted below. 


Highest Ceiling Hitters

SO. 1B/OF Jackson Schanuel (Hutchinson CC): Kansas Commit. finished 5/12 with a pair of home runs while holding things down in the middle of a talented Hutchinson County order in Kansas City. hit .452 as a freshman adding 17HRs and 41 total XBH while walking more than he struck out for the Blue Dragons. 

SO. OF Danny Wideman (Butler CC): Before he became one of the biggest producers in the Jayhawk, Wideman ranked as the #12 overall player in the state of Oregon with plenty of attention on the impressive offensive upside. As a freshman, the 6'0, 185 pound outfielder slashed .438/.512/.941 with 25HRs and 41 total XBHs with an even strikeout to walk ratio of 23/23. At the plate, the RHH features some near effortless bat speed with innate feel for a heavy barrel as it works in the zone early creating the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with power. In Kansas City, Wideman delivered more of the same, reaching in 6/9 trips to the plate including a HR in game two of the double header for the Beavers. The highly touted sophomore will be a must see name come opening day next spring. 

SO UTL Kellan Burke (Cloud County CC): Nebraska commit. Following a freshman year where he started all 57 games for the Thunderbirds slashing .413/.486/.822 adding 21HRs and 40 total XBHs Burke has continued to tear the cover off the baseball as he looks forward to joining to D1 ranks. 

SO. INF Justin Rompre (Iowa Western CC): The Quebec native came into Kansas City with a known power profile and did not disappoint, slugging a pair of long home runs in the double header for the Reivers. The long levered 6'0, 195 pound infielder features present strength in the lower half and it plays into the swing well building power from the ground up before generating some loud bat speed through the zone with precision. In 57 games as a freshman, Rompre slashed .428/.573/.902 with 19HRs while racking up 43 total XBHs grabbing ICCAC first team all region honors in the process. Rompre is a cannot miss bat ahead of next season. 


Two-Way Standouts

FR. INF/RHP Mac Solis (Johnson County CC): Prior to his commitment to Johnson County, Solis was a top 25 athlete in Kansas's 2026 class with top end physical tools and following a strong fall with the Cavaliers the ceiling for production on both sides of the baseball continues to rise. The 6'2, 205 pound RHH found 3 hits across his two games played in the field including a 2B and HR both to the back side, highlighting some top end strength and control for outlier bat speed, the hit tool is supplemented by a 6.8 60 yard dash creating a variety of ways for Solis to find himself in scoring position. On the mound, Solis tossed two perfect frames to close out a win for Johnson County featuring an up tempo, repeatable delivery and a quick, loose arm from a higher 3/4 slot with feel to land three quality offerings. The right handed arm ran the FB up to 91 on this day with a SL as his primary off speed option. 

SO. RHP/OF Evan Dugdale (Cloud County CC): Oklahoma Commit with top end two way tools. Hit .320 with 12 XBH across 120ABs as a freshman with Vernon Junior College adding limited apperances in relief off the mound with a 90+ mph FB and three quality options to attack hitters. 

SO. OF/LHP Drew Owen (DMACC): Despite not putting up all region numbers in Kansas City, Owen is a no doubt follow ahead of next spring for the Bears. The 5'11, 185 pound two-way features loud metrics all over the field with a 6.44 60 yard dash and 92 mph outfield arm to patrol the grass with before reaching exit velocities north of 104 in BP. The L/L athlete features a unique blend of high level defensive talent with real middle of the order production, with big rotational strength and bat speed lending themselves to an established pull side power threat. As a freshman, Owen slashed .424/.500/.709 with 34XBHs and double digit home runs which was good for first team all-region. When paired with some elite arm speed running the FB up to the low 90's and a devistating breaking ball which created consistent swing and miss across his two innings of action in Kansas City, Owen becomes one of the most exciting follows in the ICCAC ahead of his sophomore season. 


Power Bats

So. C Andrew Sands (Jefferson College) is a name to know in the junior college ranks, bringing a combination of power production and arm strength behind the plate. Sands is coming off an impressive freshman season at Jeff Co, where he launched 20 home runs, establishing himself as a legitimate power threat in the lineup. The ability to change a game on both sides of the ball makes Sands an intriguing name to follow moving forward.
So. Jose Arquez (State Fair CC) is an intriguing power bat to follow heading into the spring. Arquez put together a productive first season at State Fair, hitting .306 with five home runs and 20 RBI in limited opportunities. The physicality and strength in the right-handed swing give him the ability to impact the game with one swing. His .612 slugging percentage last year further speaks to the type of impact he can provide in the middle of a lineup, making Arquez an intriguing offensive name to follow moving forward.

So. 1B Jimmy Walkanoff (Rock Valley College): Walkanoff turned heads in Kansas City in Rock Valley's doubleheader finishing 5/8 with 3HRs on the day. The 6'3, 245 pound RHH features a wide, balanced setup before a controlled stride syncs the body, leveraging out the long levers well to lift the baseball to all fields. In his freshman spring, Walkanoff found some success hitting .312 with 15XBH and 6HRs across 134 plate apperances. With enough evidence of potential in the hit tool and a big performance in the showcase, look for Walkanoff to progress himself into an impact middle of the order bat next spring. 

So. OF/C Logan Hicks (Butler CC): Following a monster showing at the KJCCC sophomore showcase, Hicks picked up right where he left off  in the Beavers' doubleheader in Kansas City. The 6'2, 210 pound backstop ran a 6.57 60 yard dash before logging a consistent pop time in the sub two range, with an 81mph arm from the croutch. At the dish, Hicks put together a loud round of BP maxing out at 105mph before leaving the yard twice in game play. In Kansas City, Hicks finished 4/6 with 3HRs once again putting the outlandish rotational strength and bat speed on display, while seemingly getting more accurate with the barrel by the day. With all the tools for success and flashes of top end production on the fall, Hicks becomes a must know name heading into next year. 

SO. C Nate Glad (Northeastern CC): Glad found himself as a top bat across 4 games in Kansas City collecting 5 hits in 9 trips to the plate with plenty of power potential as shown below while holding things down well behind the plate across 3 starts. The RHH backstop features a wide, balanced setup before syncing the body with a controlled stride and working the barrel in zone early with some evident bat speed. Glad is coming off a big freshman year where he slashed .409/.500/.746 adding 20XBH with 11 leaving the yard while walking 20 times to 14 strikeouts. Defensively, Glad carried his sub 1.8 pop from the chute well into game play throwing out 39% of total baserunners. With proven production on both sides of the baseball and some notable physical development, Glad becomes a must follow name at a premium position heading into next season.

RS FS. OF Logan Booth (Mineral Area College): Booth hit an event high 4HRs across the doubleheader for the Cardinals to go along with an impressive tool belt making for a must know name ahead of next spring. The 6'2, 220 pound outfielder flexes a 6.8 60 yard dash, 93mph outfield arm, and an average BP exit velocity of 97.8mph with in game exit velocities north of 105 making for a top end profile in a powerful frame. At the plate, the LHH features a controlled leg kick, landing on time often before working a heavy barrel through the zone with ease looking to back spin fly balls to the pull side. With big tools and a knack for lifting the baseball against talented arms, expect booth to be a top end contributor for the Cardinals in his redshirt freshman season.

RS SO. 1B Kolbe Mills (Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa): In a towering 6'5, 235 pound frame with plenty of present power in his bag, Mills has all the tools to be able to be a high level producer for NOC-Tonkawa next spring. At the Mavericks scout day Mills delivered an impressive round of BP maxing out at 106MPH exit velocity with a hard hit percentage of 100%, while adding a strong arm across the diamond clocking in at 91mph across the diamond. The hit tool had no problems carrying its way into Kansas City as Mills collected 3 hits across 7ABs with a plethora of hard hit baseballs across the 4 games. In a short stint before injury his sophomore year, Mills collected 14Hs with 3HRs across just 29 ABs, showing flashes of what could be an outstanding final year for NOC-Tonkawa. 

SO. INF Gage Perri (Indian Hills CC): Perri carried some top end tools into Kansas City and seamlessly translated them to the diamond for one of the more exciting looks on the event. At the ICCAC showcase, Perri logged a 6.6 60 yard dash before showing off some strong footwork and uncorking the arm for a 96mph top velo across the infield before a solid showing in BP. Perri continued his strong offensive precense into gameplay in Kansas City, finishing the doubleheader 3/6 with all three knocks going for extra bases including a long HR to the pull side. Perri's success followed a freshman year where he slashed .345/.435/.613 adding 10HRs across 144ABs. With one of the more impressive speed/power profiles in the Kansas City and enough evidence of success, look for Perri to be a staple in Indian Hills' lineup next spring. 

SO. INF Eastin Hubbard (Northeastern CC): Hubbard had no problems flexing the power tool in his short stint in Kansas City leaving the yard twice in 5 ABs while walking twice to a lone strikeout. The stout right handed hitting infielder features a powerful lower half and it finds its way into the swing well, generating high level strength from the ground up to power some impressive bat speed on a compact path through the zone. As a freshman, Hubbard slashed .372/.536/.810 with 27 total XBHs including 16HRs. With a strong foundation and seemingly improved zone awareness in a short look, Hubbard becomes an intruiging follow ahead of his sophomore spring. 

SO. OF Matthew Kesting (Colby CC): Kesting has flashed an intriuging speed/power combo this fall pairing with some impressive numbers at the dish last year with the Trojans making for a name to know ahead of next season. At the KJCCC sophomore showcase, Kesting recorded a 6.7 60 yard dash before an impressive BP round with an average exit velocity of 94.6mph while maxing out in the triple digits. The 6'0, 195 pound LHH followed things up in KC with a long HR in 1 of 2 recorded at bats, logging BBs in his other 4 trips to the plate across the double header. The power bat with strong awareness for the zone was carried over well from last spring where he logged 11HRs while walking more than he struck out across 114 ABs. Look for Kesting to thrive in a larger role at Colby next year. 

SO. UTL Jacob Koerselman (Iowa Central CC): The transfer infielder made an instant impact with the Tritons showing off the hit tool in Kansas City to go along with some impressive tools his bag. The 5'11, 195 pound athlete impressed at the ICCAC showcase logging a 6.84 60 yard dash before showing off the versatility with strong defensive showings in the workout clocking 91mph throws from both the infield and outfield. At the plate, the RHH's ability to produce force from the ground and generate bat speed was evident with a 102.9 max exit velocity with a loud average of 100.9mph in his BP round. Koerselman generated some buzz in his freshman year at Ellsworth CC through 44 games, slugging .683 with 14HRs and with what seems to be some improved bat to ball skill will be a no doubt follow at Iowa Central next spring. 

SO. INF Carson Shee (Mineral Area College): Shee turned heads with a pair of impressive offensive showings in event backed by a strong track record at the dish as a freshman. In 60 games last spring, Shee hit .344 while showing off an impressive power stroke with 15HRs and 32 total XBH. across the doubleheader in Kansas City, the 6'0, 210 pound corner infielder flashed some improved plate discipline and bat to ball skill and it showed in the box score as he finished 5/7 with a HR and a pair of 2Bs. With a proven ability to leave the yard and improved bat to ball skill, Shee showed as a premier right handed bat to keep eyes on for next spring. 
SO. INF Wyatt Myers (Iowa Central CC): Myers' proven track record to hit at the next level combined with strong in event performance in Kansas City makes him one of the more exciting power bats ahead of next spring. In 59 games as a freshman with ICCC, Myers slashed .392/.550/.741 including 12HRs and 24 total XBH across 146 ABs with a walk to strikeout ratio of 37/29. In event, Myers found exit velocities north of 104mph adding strong defense in the infield. With the combination of proven success and added strength, the Minnesota native leaves as one of the potential best middle infield power bats of the event looking ahead to next season. 


Impact Freshman

FR. Util. Bennett Collins (Metropolitan CC) continues to show why he is an intriguing name to follow in the junior college ranks. The physical presence stands out immediately, with the ability to impact the game from the middle of the lineup. Collins showed a polished offensive approach throughout the weekend, consistently working into favorable counts and handling quality pitching without giving away at-bats. The offensive upside is intriguing, with the combination of physicality and bat-to-ball ability giving him a chance to be a run-producing presence moving forward.

FR. OF Trentin Kooy (Crowder College) is a young outfield prospect to keep an eye on this spring. The 6.78 runner brings athleticism to the position and showed well offensively throughout the weekend. Kooy’s athletic swing allows him to get into his legs and generate quality impact while maintaining a controlled, repeatable move through contact. As a freshman with plenty of room for continued development, he is a name worth following throughout the season.

FR. UTL Brady Stewart (Johnson County CC): Stewart comes into his freshman year at Johnson county with some buzz as the #12 ranked player in Kansas's 2026 class following a trip to the Future Games in 2025. Stewart features some can't miss tools along with defensive versatility that may allow for a high upside bat to see some more opportunities in the spring. The 6'1, 185 pound L/R utility man ran a 6.64 60 at the Johnson County scout day in August before showing off a solid glove and strong arm with an 88mph toss across the diamond with a quick, compact release. At the plate, Stewart works from a relaxed, upright stance before generating some easy bat speed with violent pull side intentions. With Stewart's full tool belt, versatility and high offensive upside he becomes a standout freshman against a strong incoming class for Johnson County. 

FR. INF Alek Ramey (Rock Valley College): As far as power upside goes across all the freshman that made their way into Kansas City there is no doubt Ramey made his way to the top of that list in a hurry. The 6'3, 215 pound first baseman put up an impressive round of BP at the Rock Valley scout day, leaving the yard a number of times with a max exit velocity north of 104mph. The LHH features a knack for leveraging his frame well with a tight turn and good bat speed through the zone on a slight up hill path primed for back spun fly balls to the big part of the yard. Look for Ramey to make an instant impact in Rock Valley's order with power upside well within the realm of conversation for this Power bat. 

FR. MIF Sawyer Newton (Cloud County CC): The former future gamer ahead of committing to Cloud County came in as a top 50 ranked player in the state of Kansas before putting our staff on notice at the Cloud County scout day with a full belt of top end tools. Newton Logged a 6.6 60 yard dash with a top velocity of 88mph across the diamond while showing off good foot speed and a loose arm, comfortable from a variety of angles. At the plate, the LHH delivered a max exit velocity of 110mph with impressive an average of 98.8mph. Mechanically working from a wide, balanced setup the barrel works on plane early with a flatter path and some impressive bat speed playing to a top of the order profile with power upside. Newton is a no doubt follow ahead of next spring with sky high upside and all of the signs for instant production. 

FR. OF Charlie Ziola (Johnson County CC): The Nebraska native found himself as the #6 ranked player in Nebraska's 2026 class before delivering one of the top offensive perfomances in the event, finishing with a pair of multi hit bouts as well as leaving the yard in both contests. Ziola showcases a physical 6'0, 180 pound frame and it shows up in loud metrics all over the diamond featuring a sub 7 60 with an outfield arm in the upper 80's while putting up exit velocities north of 100mph in an impressive round of BP. The L/L outfielder features strong rotational strength with immense feel for the barrel and an innate ability to match plane. Ziola could very easily find himself as a top performer in a talented Johnson County lineup making for a must know name ahead of next spring. 

FR. UTL Jett McCoy (Huchinson CC): The former top 25 athlete in Oklahoma's 2026 class continues to showcase a talented top of the order profile to pair with high level defensive versatility. McCoy features a high waisted 6'3, 175 pound frame with present strength in the lower half. The movements on both sides of the ball stick out for McCoy as he logged a 6.68 60 back in 2024 carrying over into gameplay well. At the plate, the RHH shows plenty of upside with good batspeed through the zone and some awareness of the barrel to follow. Premium upside in both the physical and in game tools make for an exciting follow ahead of next spring. 

FR. INF Jack Euston (Three Rivers College): Euston had the can't miss upside on display for a big 3HR game against one of the more impressive pitching staffs on the event turning heads all over the complex. The 6'1, 205 pound infielder showcases some big metrics in the box, generating bat speeds in the mid 70's with a max BP exit velocity of 101.4mph while the average exit velocity found itself at an impressive 94.6. Mechanically, the RHH sets up in a relaxed, upright stance before a controlled leg kick works into an extended stride, anchoring the lower half to deliver the barrel on a slight uphill path through the zone with feel for a heavy barrel. With the power and bat to ball skill already on display, this is a potential middle of the order profile to keep eyes on ahead of next spring. 

FR. C/INF Noah Davies (DMACC): The former future gamer delivered with some impressive swings across the slate with plenty of tools in the belt making for a no doubt name to circle ahead of next spring. The 5'10, 185 pound backstop shows well across the board with a 6.77 60 yard dash and an upper 7's arm from the crouch good for sub 2 pop times from the chute. In the box, Davies collected multiple swings north of 95mph with a top EV on the event of 104mph. The LHH works from a relaxed setup before a hinge in the top half primes the body, generating impressive bat speed through the zone on a flatter path. The premium profile and full tool belt coupled with in game production leaving our staff confident Davies will find a way to make an impact in the lineup for the Bears next season. 

FR. C Yieckxel Rivera (Kansas City Kansas CC): The 6'0, RHH backstop wasted no time grabbing the attention of our staff with a multi hit game one for the Blue Devils before leaving the yard to the back side in game two. At the plate, Rivera works out of a balanced setup with present athleticism in the box, utilizing a compact stride to start the move before working on a direct path through the zone looking to back spin the baseball. The feel to hit from a premium position make for an interesting follow in a competitive environment that could see Rivera make an instant impact next spring. 

FR. OF Jacob Pruett (Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa): In a short look in Kansas City, Pruett profiled as a potential middle of the order presence with the metrics and athleticism to hold down a corner outfield spot at the next level. At the plate, the 6'1, near 200 pound RHH features evident physicality with loud rotational power working from a wide, relaxed setup creating lag in the hands before a tight turn generates some impressive bat speed through the zone. In game play, Pruett found exit velocities north of triple digits with while collecting a multi hit bout in one of the friday games for the Mavs. Defensively, Pruett's sub 6.8 60 yard dash and mid 9's arm make for a high potential corner outfielder capable of tracking down would be hits and collecting OF assists. Keep eyes on Pruett as he looks ahead to his freshman spring. 


Athletes to Watch

RS SO. OF Trevor McGraw (Kansas City Kansas CC): McGraw's top of the order profile at the dish paired with strong defensive actions and metrics for one of the highest floor follows on display on the event. In the outfield, the 5'11 athlete boasts a 6.6 60 yard dash with a lower 9's OF arm that both translate well to the game setting. At the plate, the RHH features a balanced setup with a controlled stride to sync the body before showing off apparent adjustability and feel for the barrel on a direct path to the baseball. In 96 at bats last season, Mcgraw slashed .385/.527/.646 with 5HRs while collecting 22BBs to 17Ks. 

SO. UTL Kelley Abke (Fort Scott CC): Abke's ability to plug and play defensively with impressive offensive upside make for a can't miss name to get eyes on ahead of next spring. In the KJCCC sophomore showcase, the 6'0, 195 pound athlete turned heads with a 6.8 60 yard dash while logging 93mph throws from both the infield and outfield good for #1 and #4 on the leaderboards respectively while showcasing some aggressive movements with sound hands throughout. At the plate, the RHH works from a balanced setup with a controlled stride syncing the body for a tight turn generating some bat speed evident in the exit velocity column, logging multiple swings north of triple digits in game play. Across 56ABs as a freshman, Abke logged 20Hs with half going for extra bases including 4HRs while logging an OBP of .500. Look for Abke's versatility to present plenty of opportunies for the hit tool to shine for the greyhounds next spring. 

RS FS. INF Ryan Stice (Cloud County CC): With metrics that pop all over the board and power upside, add Stice to the list of follows in a deep Cloud County roster. The 5'10, 165 pound infielder presents some top end athleticism and it shows in the profile, logging a 6.6 60 yard dash, an upper 8s arm across the diamond with strong defensive actions and a top exit velocity north of triple digits. At the plate, the RHH works from a relaxed, upright setup before an extended leg kick works the body into the swing with the barrel getting on plane early carrying some thump through the zone. The speed/power combo pairing with sound defensive actions make for a premium profile to keep eyes on heading into next season. 

RS FS. INF Miguel Tetreault (Cloud County CC): Tetreault showcases some loud metrics in the profile while finding success in limited in game action making for a high upside follow heading into next spring. The 5'10, 165 pound middle infielder showcased present athleticism with physical tools and it showed across each station of the showcase as he logged a 6.9 60 yard dash with an 88mph arm across the diamond and a max exit velocity of 103.4mph while finding himself all over the barrel with an average exit velocity of 96.4mph. In the game setting, Tetreualt's high motor was apparent on both sides of the ball, holding things down at shortstop while proving to be an XBH threat with discipline in the box. Keep eyes on the Alberta native amongst a sea of talented Cloud County bats come spring. 

SO INF Jack Ratcliffe (Iowa Central CC): The Australia native blended a full bag of developing tools with high upside production shown in one of the Friday contests for ICCC where he grabbed 6 total bases in his first two trips to the dish. The 5'10, 190 pound right handed bat runs a 6.94 60 while showing off a dependable glove in the infield, with a mid 8's arm comfortable working from multiple angles across the diamond. At the plate, Ratcliffe shows a balanced setup before a controlled leg kick starts a tight turn, generating strong bat speed on a compact path through the zone. In 59 ABs as a freshman, Ratcliffe posted an OBP of .500 with 16Hs and 19BBs to 14Ks. With proven plate discipline and seemingly improved barrel accuracy, look for Ratcliffe to thrive in a larger role with the Tritons next spring. 

SO C Reid Oakley (Kansas City Kansas CC): Oakley boasted plenty of tools in his belt before picking up right where he left off in his freshman year at the plate making for high level follow heading into next season. The strong 6'0, 190 pound backstop runs sub 7 60 yard dash while impressing from behind the plate with a pop time sitting comfortably in the 1.9s and a 3rd in event 82mph arm from the croutch at the KJCCC sophomore showcase. At the plate, the RHH works in a wide setup before a compact stride syncs the body for a quick set of hands to work the barrel on a flat path through the zone. In 34 games as a freshman, Oakley hit .396 with an OBP of .470, adding 14XBHs while walking more than he struck out. Defensively, Oakley put together an impressive effort controlling the run game from behind the plate nabbing 45% of would be base stealers. The high floor of a top of the order offensive presence and strong defensive backstop are more than enough to pay attention to before adding the power potential present in Oakley's frame creating a must know name ahead of next spring. 

RS FS. OF Hunter Thoms (Barton CC): Thoms caught the attention of our staff early logging a 3rd in event 6.40 60 yard dash at the KJCCC sophomore showcase before supplementing it with in game production in KC including a 2XBH contest on Friday. The LHH works in a narrow setup with an extended stride, while creating some lag in the hands before working the barrel on an uphill path with some present accuracy. The athletic 5'8 outfielder found some success in a small sample size his freshman year at Barton, logging a .441 OBP in 44ABs while going 8/8 on stolen base attempts. Now healthy and with a skill set built for wreaking havoc in the top of the order, look for Thoms to be a consistent table setter for Barton next season. 

SO. OF Hudson Powers (Highland CC): Powers' balanced approach and smooth swing made for a strong top of the order follow on the event. The LHH worked from a balanced setup with a compact stride, working the barrel in zone early translating to consistent line drive contact to all fields. The 5'11, 170 pound outfielder still has some room to the ceiling physically while posting solid present metrics with a 6.9 60 yard dash and a mid 8's outfield arm that could find big jumps quickly following the off season. As a freshman, Powers played in 51 games, hitting .307 while racking up an OBP of .493 due in large part to a school record 49BBs. Following a strong off season, look for Powers to become a catalyst for this Highland offense. 

SO. UTL Colton Duerling (Kirkwood CC): Duerling is off to an impressive start this fall, collecting some loud metrics to go along with a developing in game power tool. At the ICCAC showcase in September the 5'10, 175 pound athlete impressed with a 6.67 60 yard dash, while clocking an 85mph toss across the diamond and an 87mph max OF velocity before an impressive BP round with a max exit velocity of 100.7 with an average in the mid 90's. In a small sample size as a freshman, duerling showcased the ability to get on base as well as leave the yard with a home run in just 10 total at bats. Look for Duerling to find success in an improved role his sophomore season.
