Bryant The ‘Perfect Option’ For Zaslaw

WEYMOUTH, Ma. - The prospect of playing Division I college baseball began to become strong for Sean Zaslaw this past summer. In the fall it became a reality with a commitment to Bryant.

“I knew I had the ability to do it and this summer it became a real thing for me,” the 47th-rated junior in New England related. “Sept. 1 in when coaches could call 2023s. I had a good summer and coaches wanted to wait until they could talk to me directly.”

The Weymouth High School junior did his part in getting exposure.

“I did PBR showcases that got my name out there and sent video to coaches,” Zaslaw pointed out. “With summer ball playing for GBG I was able to get seen.”

That is where Bryant saw Zaslaw perform.

“It got pretty serious with them this fall,” the 6-0 175-pounder noted. “They got out to see me with my travel team GBG, I had a good outing throwing and they gave me a call. Maybe a week after that they gave me an offer.”

The offer came on a Friday and a visit followed on Sunday. A commitment took place two days later.

“I fell in love with Bryant,” Zaslaw said. “I saw a practice and I loved the energy.”

Contact with seven other colleges took place, including an offer from Marist a couple weeks prior to Bryant.

“It really heated up this fall,” Zaslaw explained about his recruitment. “I was talking to a lot of schools, but out of all of them Bryant was the perfect option.

“It was a mixture of a lot of things,” Zaslaw continued about what stood out in regard to the Northeast Conference school. “The coaching staff was a huge part of it. Plus, it’s close to home, only about an hour away, and they always win their conference so I’m going to compete at a high level which is perfect for me. They’re going to give me a chance to play right away so it’s just a perfect fit.”

The plan is for Zaslaw to be a pitcher, but the ninth-ranked 2023 shortstop in New England could also be given a chance to get on the field elsewhere.

“If I’m a good enough hitter when I get there, they’ll give me the opportunity as a two-way player,” Zaslaw said.

There was a lot for Bryant to admire about the 16-year-old from Weymouth, rated 25th among juniors in Massachusetts.

“They like how athletic I am on the mound and how I can do a ton of stuff on the field,” Zaslaw said. “They like the way I spin the ball and my fastball/slider combo. They also like how competitive I am on the field.”

Zaslaw pointed to the sacrifices made by his parents as well as GBG for being huge in his development and the whole recruiting process, in helping a commitment to Bryant become a reality for the 4.1 student who is planning to major in business.

“I’ve done a lot of work on my own which has helped me get where I am,” Zaslaw said. “I’m blessed to have a field next to my house and I’m always over there running, fielding and doing long toss. I work hard on a mixture of many things which has allowed me to get to this point.”

A commitment brings a “huge relief” according to Zaslaw.

“I enjoyed the process but now I can focus on getting better so I’m ready when I step on campus,” Zaslaw said.

There is a lot awaiting Zaslaw when it comes to arriving at Bryant.

“I’m looking forward to winning a conference championship and possibly taking it to another level,” Zaslaw said about the future. “The end goal is to play pro ball and Bryant will give me an opportunity to do that. That’s my ultimate goal.”
