PBR: Let’s start off with your commitment. Why did you choose Villanova?

Povey: I chose Villanova because I felt that the coaches were committed to building a program and wanted me to be a factor in that process. The recruiting process went smooth and the excitement they showed about some big changes in the program made me motivated to lead the way for Villanova. I want Villanova baseball to reach new heights during my time there.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Povey: I had serious interest in St Johns, Rutgers, Elon, Columbia, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, Wake Forest.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Povey: The coaches saw me in Ft. Meyers at the WWBA event in October. After that it was pretty quick. I visited a couple weeks after and had a good conversation with the coaches and came out feeling great about Villanova. I talked with the coaches often in the weeks after the visit leading up to my decision. The process definitely felt right with them.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Povey: It's a weight off my shoulders for sure, the process can be a lot at times. With all the buzz and social media surrounding it makes it feel even better to be done with. I look forward to just playing the game now.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put Villanova over the top?

Povey: I wouldn’t say there was one factor that put Villanova ahead of other schools but instead a whole package. Great academics alongside a program that Coach Mulvey is really buying into and selling well is what made the decision easier for me.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Povey: The process wasn’t difficult but could be frustrating at times and rewarding at other times. Before I was in the recruiting process I don’t think I realized how unclear the process can be with some schools. Coaches are not very straightforward with players sometimes which only made it easier for me to narrow down my decision to schools whose coaches were straight-up and laid out the plan for me. Villanova obviously being one of them.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Povey: The PBR Future Games in Indiana is definitely up there amongst the best baseball memories I can think of. The atmosphere and exposure was unmatched and it was a great time competing alongside some of the best players in the country.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Povey: Probably Nate Wohlgemuth from Oklahoma at the Futures Games, but I’m not big into focusing on the other teams rankings or commitments as much as a lot of guys with the social media and all that. I like to compete with and beat the other guy, I couldn’t care less about their ranking.
