Each year prior to the season, we interview several of the state's top ranked seniors to get a look at the behind the scenes preparation for the spring. To keep us going, we sit down with Vanderbilt recruit and 2022 New Jersey Player of the Year, Alex Kranzler.

Scouting Report

Tell us about the decision-making process for your commitment? How excited are you to play there?
I wanted a high end academic school with high end baseball that can help develop me to become a Major League Baseball player and compete to win a college World Series in Omaha. I am very excited to play there and can not wait for the fall.

If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?

Plus slider and fastball with a good changeup and new cutter that is a plus pitch as well. Ultra competitor that has a high pitch ability and commands the zone with ease. Big durable frame. Has some funk with a lower arm slot. Slider is an outlier. Fastball has more sink and plus velocity.

We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.

Lifting 6 days a week
Mobility 7 days
Throwing 6 days
Sticking to a consistent schedule and working on staying looser in the throw adding a cutter, refining changeup, and gaining athleticism.

Name three goals for the upcoming season.

State Championship
Gatorade Player of the year
Number 1 ranked kid in state

Do you have any pregame superstitions?

Cherry pedialyte and poke bowl night before start. Hawaiian shirt to school on start day.

Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career so far? What makes that player so good?

Cam Collier. Pure hitter that can go to all fields with power. Big strong frame and a plus defender.

Who would you say your baseball role model is? Why?

Max Scherzer. Love his competitiveness and the way he goes about business. Also love his mentality and model my game after him.
