As the new year has come and gone, it's time to delve into the annual "Get to Know" segment. Each year prior to the season, we interview several of the state's top ranked seniors to get a look at the behind the scenes preparation for the spring. To start us off, we have Maryland recruit, RHP Duke McCarron.

Tell us about the decision-making process for your commitment? How excited are you to play there?

Choosing Maryland for me was the connection I got with the coaches and the culture of the players. Feels like family.

If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?

A pitcher who is there to win. He goes out and tries to compete each and every pitch no matter good or bad situation. Works his tail off.

We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.

Been using this time to develop myself as a pitcher and also physically. This includes a lot of working out in the weight room, in depth mechanical breakdowns and also working on all the pitches I throw.

Name three goals for the upcoming season.

Throw Strikes. Win. Leader on the field.

Do you have any pregame superstitions?

Music gets me in the groove. Gets me in the flow state to compete.

Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career so far? What makes that player so good?

Justin Sweeney. He is an awesome pitcher. He always makes it a tough battle to pitch against and awesome time to throw against.

Who would you say your baseball role model is? Why?

Bryce Harper. He is a leader and a captain. He has been someone I have looked up to my whole life. Something about the way he respects the game makes him an awesome player.
