No. 1-Ranked Jason Groome Heading Back To New Jersey

Jason GroomeOnly being a few weeks removed from our most recent 2016 top 200 Florida rankings, we have heard news that will cause a major shakeup at the top of the list. Already well-documented, LHP Jason Groome is the No. 1 ranked player in the country and the Vanderbilt recruit attended IMG Academy last spring.

Groome, who is originally from New Jersey and plays for New Jersey-based Tri-State Arsenal in the summer, will be heading back to his hometown state and attending his former high school, Barnegat, for his senior year. Throughout the spring and summer, the 6-foot-5, 210-pound Groome has routinely been 92-95 mph with his fastball to go along with a significantly improved curveball and changeup.

How does this affect the 2016 rankings? The national rankings will obviously stay the same, the only difference being New Jersey will now boast the No. 1 player instead of Florida, but the Florida rankings will be shaken up a little. Austin Bergner will jump back into the No. 1 spot, obviously being a very worthy candidate, and everyone else will move up one ranking.
