PBR Evaluation & Measurables Showcase Analysis: Class of 2018

The fall/winter schedule of PBR events made the move indoors on October 8th with the PBR Evaluation and Measurables Showcase beginning a series of seven events that will be held over the next five months at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects from three states that participated by looking at the Class of 2018.

Class of 2018
Chris Baker, OF, Moorestown (NJ)
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Hands work well through contact and displayed above average feel for the barrel with a gap-to-gap approach. Stays inside baseball well and creates some back spin with a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Showcased athletic actions defensively with an accurate, long arm throwing motion. Throws of 78 mph from the outfield showed solid straight line carry. Junior displayed best foot speed at the event (6.94 60-yard dash).
Daniel Brennan, OF/2B, Jefferson (WV)
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short stride to initiate his swing. Demonstrated a line drive approach with a short swing path that allowed him to barrel the baseball repeatedly. Used the middle of the field well and registered a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Displayed the ability to play through the baseball defensively with accurate 77 mph arm strength from the outfield. Athletic frame with potential for added strength through physical maturity. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash.
Chad Speiser, C/OF, Northern York (PA)
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitter took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. Starts from an open stance and uses a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Drops hands prior to load but displayed the ability to get his foot down and barrel to the hitting zone on time repeatedly with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Displayed sound defensive skills with quick feet, a clean transition and a top pop time of 2.28 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch. Showcased quiet actions in receiving the baseball and a soft wall for blocking. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash on this date but has run a 7.06 previously.
Ben Lesher, 1B/3B, Kennett (PA)
6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed hitter with an athletic, projectable frame. Starts from a wide, slightly open stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Displayed solid barrel whip and a feel for the barrel during an above average round of batting practice with an 83 mph bat exit velocity. Potential for some power with additional strength gains and some adjustments to his stance to more fully take advantage of his frame. Ran a 7.57 60-yard dash and displayed capable actions defensively at both corner infield positions with 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.
