Texas JUCO Week 4 Ranking

Noah Sharp
PBR Texas JUCO Insider

This week did not have as much movement as last week. However, the moves that did happen were quite drastic. The positive movements included a new team entering the top 5, a team jumping into the teens, and a team making its way back into the top 25. In addition, two teams suffered big drops, with one of them knocking out of the top 25.

On The Rise:

#12 → #5 Blinn

Blinn had the biggest week out of any team. They won 6 games outscoring some of the states’ most talented teams. They took three from Howard, two from Coastal Bend, and one from Ranger. The two biggest contributors for them were FR RHP John Chomko and SO OF/C Alec Sanchez (uncommitted). Chomko had 2 wins in 9 ⅔ innings with 10 strikeouts in addition to 6 shutout innings during a game against Coastal Bend. Alec Sanchez  hit .389 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, and 1 home run with 6 RBI’s.

#25 → #18 North Central

North Central had three wins this past week. One win over Brookhaven and the other two against Highland (KS). On the mound against Highland was FR RHP Zeke Wood, who pitched 6 shutout innings; striking out 6 with only 1 walk. At the plate was FR Clay Stevens who had a great week, hitting .385 with 3 RBI’s, 5 runs that included a double and a home run.

Dropping:

#2→ #8 Howard

Howard endured a tough week. They went 1-3, getting swept by Blinn with their sole win coming against Ranger. There was, however, some glimpse of light throughout the weekly struggle. On the mound was Ricky Apodaca who got the win against Ranger with his 6 innings striking out 9 with the only one run being a home run. At the plate for the week was SO OF Ty Manning (uncommitted) who had a good week hitting .714 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.

#16→ UR Northeast Texas

Northeast, unfortunately, went 0-4 this past week losing to Weatherford and then getting swept by Hutchison (KS).

Back In:

UR→ #24 Paris

Making their way back in this week is Paris. After falling out last week they swept last week’s newcomer Hill in a three-game set. It was an offensive showing in East Texas.. They outscored Hill 32-20, while hitting .304 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, and 15 stolen bases (only caught once). Leading the way for them was PBR Texas Week 4 Hitter of the Week SO C/OF Nick DeNicola (Oklahoma State) who hit .555 with 3 home runs, 9 RBI’s and 4 walks.
